Miembros de la comunidad reconocidos en los Pinnacle Awards
El 22 de octubre el Johnson County (Kan.) Library Foundation celebró el catorceavo aniversario de los Pinnacle Awards en el Regnier Hall Auditorium en Overland Park para reconocer excepcionales individuos de la comunidad. Este año uno de los recibidores fue la creadora de Dos Mundos Clara Reyes.
“Este premio es como una recapitulación de mi vida en donde me reconocen todos los logros que he tenido,” dijo Reyes, quien fue reconocida por su trabajo en negocios y emprendimiento. “Estuve muy emocionada al recibirlo. Habían fotografías – y cuando leyeron mi currículo pensé ‘esa soy yo’.”
Luis Merlo, diseñador grafico de Dos Mundos, dijo que era un premio muy merecido por todos los logros profesionales que Reyes ha alcanzado.
“Ella ha ayudado mucho a la comunidad por todos estos años y lo sigue haciendo,” dijo Merlo. “El periódico comenzó con el objetivo de unir a la comunidad hispana y guiarlos si necesitaban ayuda con médicos, dentistas o abogados.”
Los otros miembros que recibieron el premio incluyen Pete Cowdin y Deb Pettid por su trabajo en educación y literatura, Cheryl Kimmi por su servicio en las artes, y Fred Logan por su trabajo como vocero y gerente público.
La ceremonia de premiación también tuvo una hora de cocktail, música, comida y entreteniminto.

Community members honored with Pinnacle Awards

On Oct. 22, the Johnson County (Kan.) Library Foundation held its 14th annual Pinnacle Awards at Regnier Hall Auditorium in Overland Park to honor exceptional individuals in the community. This year’s recipients included Dos Mundos founder Clara Reyes.
“This award is like the recap of my life where I … (am being) recognized for all the accomplishments I have had,” said Reyes, who was recognized for her work in business and entrepreneurship. “I was very honored to receive it. There were photographs – and when they read my resume, I thought to myself, ‘Is that me?’ ”
Luis Merlo, Dos Mundos graphic designer, said it was a well-deserved award for Reyes because of all she has achieved professionally.
“She has helped the community all these years and she continues to do so,” Merlo said. “The newspaper started with the objective to connect the Hispanic community and guide them where they could go for help if they needed a doctor, a dentist or a lawyer.”
The other recipients were Pete Cowdin and Deb Pettid for their work in education and literacy, Cheryl Kimmi for her service in the arts and Fred Logan for his work in advocacy and public management.
The awards ceremony also included a cocktail hour, music, dinner and entertainment.
