Divulgando la cultura en dos idiómas.

La importancia de la voz interior

SelfTalk

The importance of self-talk

Commentary by Paula Alzate

Our minds are constantly working, developing ideas, opinions, feelings – and most importantly, telling us how to react to daily situations.
That inner voice that tells us how to react – commonly referred to as self-talk – is among the strongest, most powerful tools a person can have. It can change your life, depending on how you develop it.
According to an article by reporter Jim Jensen, “Our self-concept is created by our own self-talk, and it is our self-concept that determines our level of performance in any area of our lives.”
In other words, everything we think and tell ourselves is what we show or demonstrate to others. For example, a person who constantly tells himself, “I can’t do this” or “I’ll never get promoted” is more likely to fail because his actions will reflect his thoughts. As Jensen would put it, those thoughts or self-talks become the “instructions” that shape our reality.
If you want to improve your self-talk and get rid of negative thoughts, you can start by believing in yourself. The minute you start trusting yourself and seeing the glass of life as half-full, instead of half-empty, the minute you’ll start seeing results.  Moreover, try to set goals and increase your expectations – and work toward them. Remember, being successful starts in your mind.
Good luck with your self-talking skills. Think good thoughts.
