Estados Unidos tiene un sistema político de dos partidos – Demócratas y Republicanos. A pesar, que los integrantes de cada partido comparten las mismas ideas en asuntos generales, es importante analizar cada candidato individualmente.
La mayoría del electorado cree que los Demócratas apoyan la asistencia social y los Republicanos no. Pero, en mi opinión, esta es una mala interpretación de los partidos.
Una descripción más justa de cada partido diría que los Demócratas tienden a destinar más fondos a los programas sociales como food stamps, desempleo, y Medicaid. Aunque los Republicanos creen en la necesidad de estos programas, no están dispuestos a destinar la misma cantidad de fondos.
Al partido Republicano le gustaría ver que los servicios sociales sean dirigidos por entidades privadas, pero los Demócratas piensan que este tipo de programas deben ser manejados por el gobierno federal y estatal.
El candidato que más apoya los servicios sociales, entre los presidenciales es, sin ninguna duda, Bernie Sanders. El Senador cree que los Estados Unidos no debería tener el mayor nivel de pobreza infantil y desigualdad económica entre los mayores países. Él quisiera resolver el problema de desigualdad de todos los americanos, pero en especial el de la comunidad afro-americana.
Bernie se considera a sí mismo como un socialista que quiere ver el servicio de salud universal y universidad gratuita en los Estados Unidos. “Genial, pero a qué costo?” me pregunto yo.
Al otro extremo se encuentra el candidato Republicano Donald J. Trump. Trump cree que estos programas son un gran problema y que los mismos roban las ganas de progresar de los ciudadanos. Trump asegura que “las personas que pagan impuestos están siendo afectadas por estos programas.”
Trump no posee la capacidad de entender que algunas personas necesitan ayuda para triunfar. No todos somos tan afortunado, como Trump, de recibir un préstamo de $1 millón de nuestros padres.
Los aliento a investigar cada candidato individualmente para poder entender cuál es la opción que más representa tus posturas y metas.
Welfare: Two candidates, two extremes

The US has a bipartisan political system – Democrats and Republicans. Although, the politicians within each party share basic feelings on mayor topics, it’s important to analyze each candidate individually.
Most voters believe that Democrats support welfare and Republicans oppose it. That, in my opinion, is a misperception of our political parties.
A fairer description of each party would state that Democrats tend to support more tax dollars going to social programs such as food stamps, unemployment benefits, and Medicaid. Although Republicans believe there’s a need for such programs, they favor less funding for them.
Republicans would like to see privately run social programs, but Democrats believe the federal and state governments must run social welfare programs.
The biggest supporter of welfare among the latest presidential candidates is, without any doubts. Bernie Sanders. The US Senator believes that the US should not have the highest rate of childhood poverty of any major country and more wealth and income inequality than any other country. He wants to address economic inequality for all Americans but particularly blacks, «black life do matter» the candidate repeated in several occasions.
Bernie considers himself a Socialist who wants to see universal health care and free college education in the United States. “That is nice, but at what cost?” I ask myself.
At the other extreme on the welfare issue stands Republican candidate Donald J. Trump. Trump sees welfare as a major issue and he believes that welfare robs people the chance to improve themselves. Trump also believes that «taxpayers are being shaken down by this outrageously mismanaged government program,» referring to food stamps. He has often expressed that people are taking advantage of food stamps.
Trump is incapable of understanding that some people do need a hand to succeed. After all, we aren’t all as lucky as “the Donald” to have received a “small” $1 million loan from our parents.
These are the believes of the candidates that stand at the extreme of each side. I encourage you to research the other candidates to find out which represents your views the best.
