Residente de KCMO cita a Dios y a su madre como claves para ser padre soltero
El domingo 19 de junio, el residente Mike López de Kansas City, Missouri celebró el día del padre de la manera que lo hacen la mayoría de los papás -junto con sus hijos.
Pero a diferencia de algunos papás, López celebró el día como padre soltero.
López, sobrino de los fundadores de Dos Mundos, Manuel y Clara Reyes, y técnico de servicio para Missouri Gas Energy, tiene una hija de 25 años de edad, quien vive independiente. Él también tiene dos hijos, de 22 y 21 años que viven con él. Su hijo menor tenía unos dos años de edad cuando él empezó a criar a sus tres hijos solo cuando él y su esposa se separaron (se divorciaron con el tiempo).
“Ella estaba pasando por algunas cosas, así que, ella me entregó a los niños y pensó que estarían en un mejor ambiente… conmigo”, recordó López el miércoles por la tarde (22 junio), por teléfono. “Y ella sabía que yo haría un buen trabajo como papá”.
Para ayudarlo a hacer su trabajo como padre, López recurrió a Dios.
“ Él me sostuvo… lo mantuve en primer lugar y me permitió … hacer lo que necesitaba para mis hijos”, dijo López.
López también recurrió a una fuente terrenal para inspiración, alguien con experiencia al ser madre soltera: su mamá Lucy.
“Ella fue criada a la antigua, así que ella nos crió así”, dijo el de su madre, quien falleció en 1998. “(Ella nos enseñó a) demostrar respeto… cómo enfrentarnos con situaciones diferentes… todo era de demostrar respeto y… (la filosofía) de que tus hijos son primero… tú colocas a tus hijos… delante de ti mismo, y eso es exactamente lo que hice”.

KCMO resident cites God, mother as keys to single parenting

On Sunday (June 19), Kansas City, Mo., resident Mike Lopez celebrated Father’s Day the way most fathers do – with his children.
But unlike some fathers, Lopez celebrated Father’s Day as a single parent.
Lopez, a nephew of Dos Mundos co-founders Manuel and Clara Reyes and a service technician for Missouri Gas Energy, has a 25-year-old daughter, who lives on her own. He also has two sons, 22 and 21, who live with him. His youngest child was about 2 years old when he started raising his three children alone when he and his wife separated (they eventually divorced).
“She was going through some things, and so … she just gave the kids to me and figured that they would be in a better environment … with me,” Lopez recalled Wednesday afternoon (June 22) by telephone. “And she knew I would do a good job as a parent.”
To help him do his job as a parent, Lopez turned to God.
“He kept me going…. I kept him first (and) he allowed me to … do what I needed to do with my kids,” Lopez said.
Lopez also turned to an earthly source for inspiration, someone with single parenting experience: his mother Lucy.
“She was raised old-fashioned, so she raised us (the) old-fashioned way,” he said of his mother, who died in 1998. “(She taught us to) show respect …, how to deal with different situations…. It was all about (showing) respect and … (the philosophy that) your children come first…. You put your children … before yourself. And that’s exactly what I did.”
