Although there is still a pay gap difference between women and men, the difference is dwindling. According to the U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), women earn 82 cents for every dollar earned by men.
The BLS also has issued data that provides estimates of the salaries American women make in various fields, along with estimates of the number of women in those professions. According to the government agency, the 10 highest paying fields for women are as follows:
*Chief executive: Around 313,000 women in the United States work as chief executives. Their estimated yearly salary is close to $100,000 a year.
*Pharmacist: The BLS estimates that 147,000 American women work in this field. Their average salary per year is $95,000.
*Nurse practitioner: Around 129,000 women are nurse practitioners. The estimated salary for this profession is $95,000 per year.
*Physician: The median annual salary for female physicians is $91,468. The BLS estimates there are more than 350,000 women who are part of this field.
*Lawyer: More than 330,000 women are lawyers and have an estimated annual salary of $91,156.
*Physician’s assistant: About 66,000 women are physician’s assistants. Their estimated annual salary is $85,280 per year.
*Computer and information systems: Women in technology make around $84,708 per year. According to the BLS, there are more than 160,000 women in the field.
*Psychologist: Around 71,000 American women are psychologists. Their average annual salary is $74,724.
*Engineer: Each year, more women are becoming engineers. The BLS estimates that there are around 73,000 American women who are engineers. Their salary is $74,672 per year.
*Scientists: Women who are scientists make around $73,000 per year. The BLS states there are more than 120,000 American women working in the field.
