Wonderful World: Discover Munich

Welcome tourists! In this edition, we have to talk about the third most populated city in Germany, which is also the capital of the state of Bavaria. We are talking about Munich, Germany. Its foundation dates back to 1158 and it has a population density of almost a million and a half inhabitants.
According to several studies, Munich has the best quality of life in all Germany. The origin of its name comes from the word “Munichen” from ancient German, which means “in the place of the monks,” and this is because benedict monks founded this city. This is why the city shield has a monk.
Round-trip flights from Kansas to Munich have an average cost of $950 and have at least one layover. The best way to get around the city is using both U-Bahn and S-Bahn, which are two urban subways that run throughout the city far and wide since each one has eight different lines. The cost of the trip varies from the areas to be covered in the trip. If you plan to move on more than one occasion per day in this medium it is best to buy a full day ticket that goes from $7.50 to $14.50 depending on the areas you plan to travel. The places and festivals you should not miss during your next visit for the Bavarian city of Munich are:

*Neuschwanstein Castle: due to the beauty of the castle, it served as inspiration for Walt Disney to create the castle of Sleeping Beauty. The beginning of the construction started in 1869 and it was not until 1886 when it was opened to the public, after the death of King Louis II. It has 200 rooms and receives more than 1.5 million visitors per year. The easiest way to get there is on a private tour for about $65 with private guide and transportation, although you can arrive on your own and pay only the $15 of the entrance. The castle is 80 miles from the city.
*Marienplatz: it is undoubtedly the heart and soul of the city. This square is surrounded by some of the most important buildings in the city. From here you can admire the following points of interest: Column of Santa Maria, which was erected in 1638 after the great Swedish invasion ended. The column has a statue of the Virgin Mary surrounded by four little angels that symbolize the victory of the plague, heresy, war and hunger. You can also visit the old town hall of Munich, which is more than 500 years old with a Gothic style on the outside and a striking medieval interior. There is also the new city hall in a neo-Gothic style, in which you can climb to its tower and have one of the most impressive views of the city.
*Hofbräuhaus Brewery: it is the most famous brewery in the city and one of the most famous in the world. The history of this brewery began in 1589 when it was the brewery that catered to the most important families in the city. This brewery was an important meeting point in political matters, since here the proclamation of the “Soviet Republic of Munich” was made in addition to the 25-point program that governed the Nazi party. More than 35,000 people pass through the huge halls of this brewery a day. Due to its peculiar atmosphere and its exciting history, it is undoubtedly one of the most visited points in the entire city.
*Odeonsplatz: a square that was designed as the triumphal entrance to the city of Munich. This square is also surrounded by majestic buildings, among which the Teatinos Church stands out, with a yellow Rococo-style facade; Feldherrnhalle construction in honor of the Bavarian army carried out in 1841; and also the Hofgarten garden of Italian style and that serves as a point of rest and relaxation of the overwhelming city.
*Oktoberfest: it is undoubtedly the most popular festival in all Germany. It happens in this city since 1810. It is a festival that revolves around the world of beer and lasts from 16 to 18 days. The festival began at the wedding of Prince Louis I of Bavaria and Teresa of Saxony and after the success obtained year after year it was celebrated and getting bigger. A year, about 7 million people gather in the field known as Theresienwiese. This celebration takes place at the end of September and ends at the end of October.

Conoce Múnich

Bienvenidos turistas, en esta edición nos toca hablar de la tercera ciudad más poblada de Alemania, que además es capital del estado de Baviera: nos referimos a Múnich, Alemania. La fundación de la ciudad data del año 1158 y cuenta con una densidad de población de casi un millón y medio de habitantes.
Según varios estudios, la ciudad de Múnich es la que cuenta con mejor calidad de vida para vivir dentro de Alemania. El origen del nombre de la ciudad proviene de la palabra Munichen del alemán antiguo, lo que significa “en el lugar de los monjes” y esto se debe a que la fundación de la ciudad fue por parte de los monjes benedictinos. Es por eso que el escudo de la ciudad cuenta con un monje.
Los vuelos redondos de Kansas a Múnich tienen un costo promedio de $950 y cuentan con al menos una escala. La mejor manera de moverse por toda la ciudad es tanto en el U-Bahn y el S-Bahn, los cuales son dos metros urbanos que recorren toda la ciudad a lo largo y ancho ya que cada una cuenta con 8 líneas distintas. El costo del viaje varía de las zonas que se van a recorrer en el viaje. Si tienes planeado moverte en más de una ocasión por día en este medio lo mejor será comprar un ticket por día completo que va desde los $7.50 hasta los $14.50 dependiendo de las zonas por las que se planee viajar. El costo promedio de una habitación en un hotel 3 estrellas es de $60 por noche y en un hotel 5 estrellas es de $250 por noche. En cuanto a comida típica de Múnich cabe destacar los Brezel que en EE.UU. son tan famosamente conocidos como pretzel, también deberás probar los weisswurst que son las salchichas blancas típicas de la ciudad. La carne más consumida por los bávaros es la de cerdo y suele ser acompañada de patatas en distintas presentaciones. La bebida que no deberás dejar de probar es sin lugar a dudas la cerveza ya que como todos sabemos Múnich es una de las capitales cerveceras del mundo. El costo promedio de una comida es de $15.
Los lugares y festividades que no deberás perderte en tu próxima visita por la ciudad Bávara de Múnich son los siguientes:

*Castillo de Neuschwanstein: debido a la belleza del mismo Walt Disney se inspiró en él para crear el castillo de la Bella Durmiente. El inicio de la construcción empezó en el año de 1869 y fue hasta el año de 1886 que se pudo tener acceso público una vez que el rey Luis II falleció. Cuenta con 200 habitaciones y recibe más de 1.5 millones de visitas al año. La forma más sencilla de llegar es en un tour privado por unos $65 con guía privado y transporte, aunque puedes llegar por tu parte y pagar sólo los $15 de la entrada. El castillo se encuentra a 80 millas de la ciudad.
*Marienplatz: es sin lugar a dudas el centro y alma de la ciudad. Esta plaza está rodeada de algunos de los edificios más importantes de la ciudad. Desde aquí podrás admirar los siguientes puntos de interés: Columna de Santa María, que fue erigida en el año de 1638 luego de que terminara la gran invasión sueca. La columna cuenta con una estatua de la Virgen María rodeada de cuatro angelitos que simbolizan la victoria a la peste, la herejía, la guerra y el hambre. También podrás conocer el antiguo ayuntamiento de Múnich el cual cuenta con más de 500 años de antigüedad con un estilo gótico por fuera y un llamativo interior medieval. También se encuentra el nuevo ayuntamiento de la ciudad en un estilo neogótico, en el cual podrás subir hasta su torre y tener una de las vistas más impresionantes de la ciudad.
*Cervecería Hofbräuhaus: es la cervecería más famosa de la ciudad y una de las más famosas en el mundo. La historia de esta cervecería comenzó en el año de 1589 cuando era la fábrica de cervezas que abastecía a las familias más importantes de la ciudad. Esta cervecería fue un importante punto de reunión en cuestiones políticas, ya que aquí se hizo la proclamación de la “República Soviética de Múnich” además del programa de los 25 puntos por el que se regía el partido nazi. Más de 35 mil personas pasan por los enormes salones de esta cervecería al día. Debido a su peculiar ambiente y a su apasionante historia es sin lugar a dudas uno de los puntos más visitados de toda la ciudad.
*Odeonsplatz: es una plaza que fue diseñada como entrada triunfal para la ciudad de Múnich. Esta plaza también se encuentra rodeada por majestuosos edificios entre los que destacan la Iglesia de los Teatinos, con una fachada amarilla de estilo Rococó; la construcción Feldherrnhalle en honor al ejército bávaro realizada en el año 1841; y también el jardín Hofgarten de estilo italiano y que sirve como punto de descanso y relajación de la apabullante ciudad.
*Oktoberfest: es sin lugar a dudas la fiesta más popular de todo Alemania. Se lleva a cabo en esta ciudad desde 1810. Se trata de un festival que gira entorno al mundo de la cerveza y dura de 16 a 18 días. La festividad empezó en la boda del príncipe Luis I de Baviera y Teresa de Sajonia y luego del éxito obtenido año con año se fue festejando y haciendo cada vez más grande. Al año, cerca de 7 millones de personas se reúnen en el campo conocido como Theresienwiese. Esta celebración se lleva a cabo a finales del mes de septiembre y termina a finales del mes de octubre.
