El 16 de septiembre, un terremoto con magnitud de 8.3 en la escala de Richter sacudió Chile, hasta el momento se han reportado 13 muertes.
De acuerdo con la Encuesta Geológica de EE.UU, el terremoto fue seguido por varios temblores secundarios. Además, CNN reportó que se observaron grandes olas de tsunami a lo largo de la costa chilena.
“En Coquimbo, Chile, una ola llegó a más de 15 pies de altura”, reportó CNN.
El terremoto volteó carros y destruyó viviendas y edificios. Muchas personas buscaron seguridad, incluyendo a varias que salieron corriendo a la calle.
“Fue una situación horrible”, dijo Orlando Díaz, un residente chileno durante una entrevista telefónica. “Pensé que era el fin del mundo. Todos se estaba moviendo, por un momento pensé que todos íbamos a morir. Gracias a Dios que nada grande sucedió”.
El terremoto causó que fueran evacuadas más de 1 millón de personas.
“Una vez más debemos enfrentar un golpe poderoso de la naturaleza,” citó la presidente chilena Michelle Bachelet mediante el periódico The Guardian.
El último terremoto que afectó a Chile antes de éste fue en el 2010 y cobró la vida de más de 500 personas y destruyó 220 viviendas. De acuerdo con CBS el terremoto del 2010 fue 5.6 veces más fuerte.
Medios de noticias de Chile informaron que otro terremoto sacudió la ciudad el lunes en la madrugada. El terremoto de 6.2 se considera una réplica del terremoto que causó caos y destrucción la semana pasada. No se reportaron heridos ni daños.

On Sept. 16, an earthquake registering 8.3 on the Richter scale struck Chile, killing 13 people by the latest count.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the earthquake was followed by several aftershocks. In addition, CNN reported that large tsunami waves were observed along the Chilean coast.
“In Coquimbo, Chile, a wave was measured at more than 15 feet,” CNN reported.
The earthquake overturned cars and destroyed homes and buildings. Many people were seeking safety, including some people who were running in the streets when it hit.
“It was a horrible situation,” said Orlando Diaz, a Chilean resident, during a telephone interview. “I thought it was the end of the world. Everything was moving. For a moment, I thought everyone was going to die. Thank God that nothing big happened.”
The earthquake caused more than 1 million people to be evacuated.
“Once again we must confront a powerful blow from nature,” Chilean President Michelle Bachelet was quoted by The Guardian as saying.
The last earthquake to hit Chile before this one was in 2010. It killed more than 500 people and destroyed 220,000 homes. According to CBS, the 2010 earthquake was 5.6 times stronger.
News outlets from Chile reported that another earthquake stroke the city on Monda early morning. The 6.2 earthquake is considered an aftershock of the earthquake that caused chaos and destruction last week. No injuries or damages were reported.
