Undocumented children keep crossing U.S.-Mexico border

Undocumented children keep entering the United States, according to a recent TV news report from Univision.
In its report, Univision stated that August had the highest number of undocumented children entering the country in 2015.
“In August, the CBP (U.S. Customs and Border Protection) office … (reported) that there was an increase of children … (immigrating) to the U.S.,” Marsha Catron, a spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security, told Univision.
The CBP released a document stating that 5,158 undocumented minors were arrested in August while trying to enter U.S. territory.
However, according to the CBP, the numbers have decreased in 2015, compared to 2014. In 2014, more than 68,000 undocumented children were arrested while trying to cross the U.S. border. Most of them were from Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador.
To prevent parents from sending their children alone and to prevent undocumented immigration, the U.S. government kicked off a campaign in Mexico and Central America. The campaign is trying to warn people of the multiple dangers they face while trying to cross the border. Moreover, in the campaign, people are warned of the consequences of entering U.S. territory if they’re undocumented.
“People will be arrested and deported,” the campaign states.
Still, there are those who are willing to take that chance.
“It is a risk, but sometimes we don’t have anything in our home country,” said a Kansas City, Kan., resident, speaking on anonymity. “I suffered too much while crossing the border, but I did everything because I wanted to help my family. I know it is not the right thing to do, but we have no choice.”
The final numbers on undocumented immigration in 2015 were released on Wednesday (Sept. 30), the end of fiscal year 2015 for the U.S. government.
