SkinCare

Skin care tips for a more beautiful you

Commentary by Gris Garibaldi
Your face is the first thing most people see, so it’s important to maintain a good skin care regimen.
Determining your skin type will help you choose the right products for your facial needs. Start by determining your skin type. There are four types:
*Normal: Balanced with oil and moisture, it rarely experiences blemishes or pimples. Lines are less likely to form until later in life.
*Dry: It has small pores and a dull finish, without superficial oil or shine. This will cause the skin to flake or crack.  It also is prone to form expression lines around the eyes and mouth at a younger age.
*Oily: Caused by the glands creating too much oil, it makes your face look shiny. A greasy or sticky feeling may remain even after cleansing. The pores are larger than they are with normal or dry skin. Oily skin also is more likely to cause blemishes and breakouts.
*Combination: Defined by healthy-looking skin with oily spots across the forehead and down the nose and chin. This is referred to as “T-zone” area. Wrinkles and lines seldom form early in life, when cared for properly.
By using the following simple, basic steps, you’ll have soft, radiant and healthier looking skin and postpone early aging:
*Cleanse and exfoliate: Once you’ve determined your skin type, purchase the appropriate cleanser and wash your face twice a day.  It’s crucial to remove makeup, dead skin cells and dirt, especially at night. This will help your skin appear healthier and more radiant.
*Hydrate:  Use a lightweight, oil-free moisturizer to hydrate your skin. All skin types need a moisturizer, even oily skin. It’s important to use moisturizer year-round – in the winter because of the cold, dry air and in the summer because of the dry heat.
*Protect: It’s also important to use sunscreen year-round. Sunscreen protects against UVA/UVB rays that cause skin damage, freckling and uneven discoloration. Using foundation also will help protect your skin from absorbing environmental elements in the air. If you use foundation, find one that includes sunscreen with at least SPF 25.
