PPG transforms KCK youth center

A Kansas City, Kan., building has been transformed.
PPG Colorful Communities, a program that combines community assets with donated PPG products to enhance, protect and beautify neighborhoods, announced on May 31 the completion of the State Street Project, a youth empowerment center.
According to a PPG spokesperson who requested anonymity, PPG has committed $10 million to the Colorful Communities program to support beautification projects worldwide since 2015. In 2015 and 2016 combined, it completed nearly 60 Colorful Communities projects.
As part of this year’s projects, PPG selected the State Street Project – one of roughly 75 projects it expects to complete by year’s end. At the center, the young people get involved in all levels of development, including leading a youth advisory board. The selection was made after PPG employees had submitted the idea for the Colorful Communities project.
“When we learned of the valuable contribution State Street Project is making … (to) the youth of Wyandotte County, we knew we wanted to partner with this organization and be part of it,” the spokesperson stated.
The building where the State Street Project is located was originally used as the annex to Kansas City High School until the 1990s and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and the Register of Historic Kansas Places. To restore the building, “PPG employee volunteers and paint contractors painted the lobby, hallways and classrooms with donated PPG Paints products,” the spokesperson said.
In addition, the PPG Foundation donated $20,000 to support a science, technology and math educational summer program for more than 100 kids at State Street Project.

PPG transforma centro juvenil KCK
 By Chara
