On Nov. 26, an Edwardsville, Kan., man was killed after being shot by an off-duty police officer following an incident in a Costco in Lenexa, Kan.
Ronald Hunt allegedly walked into the store, threatening customers and employees. The 58-year-old also reportedly brandished a gun inside the store.
The Costco, located near 95th Street and Interstate Highway 35, was crowded with holiday weekend shoppers. Michael Howell, an off-duty-police captain with the Kansas City, Kan., Police Department, was among them.
According to The Kansas City Star, customers and employees fled the area or hid after hearing multiple shots. When authorities arrived, the shooting was over. Authorities struggled to locate any living relatives to let them know Hunt had been killed.
A police unit in Johnson County is leading an investigation to obtain some background on the shooter and determine his motives.
