Latinos of Tomorrow to host special KC BizFest application workshop

The Latinos of Tomorrow (LOT) will host a KC BizFest 2019 and college entrance application workshop during its monthly meeting.
Hosted from 12:30 to 2 p.m. on Saturday (Oct. 27) at the Hispanic Chamber of Greater Kansas City offices, the meeting will assist students in filling out the KC BizFest 2019 application, and those who need help with college applications and essays.
The 2019 KC BizFest will take place Feb. 13-16. Online applications for it are due Nov. 30.
KC BizFest is a four-day entrepreneurial training seminar and scholarship competition open to underserved Kansas City area high school juniors and seniors. This program is free to the students.
KC BizFest started in 2004. Since then, it has helped students gain entrepreneurial experience; economic literacy; improved skills in math, reading, writing and verbal communication; and workforce readiness.  The program is supported each year by more than 100 mentors and volunteers from various backgrounds.
Axel Maldonado, LOT adviser/communication and technology specialist, recently highlighted the competitiveness of the application process.
“I think, for most of them, it’s the first time asking for rec letters, for example, and we just want to help them,” he said. “Each (LOT) meeting is focused around students’ needs, so we change the topic accordingly.”
Maldonado also emphasized that the workshop, and application and participation in KC BizFest are free. Everyone is welcome, he said.
Maldonado suggests students bring their laptops to the Saturday meeting if they have them.
