Acupuncture might help lower high blood pressure, study shows

By Chara

There might be hope for people with high blood pressure.
A University of California study claims that acupuncture can help manage high blood pressure. The researchers found that people with high blood pressure who were treated with electroacupuncture for at least six weeks had lower blood pressure than they had before starting treatment.
Researchers also found that acupuncture helped high blood pressure patients to manage their symptoms and reduced their risk of having a stroke or developing heart disease.
In addition, the study claims that research subjects who were not taking high blood pressure medicine but were treated with acupuncture showed an improvement in their symptoms.
An ancient Chinese therapy that helps treat various conditions, acupuncture works by utilizing thin needles that are inserted into the body’s meridians. Many people have claimed acupuncture has helped them in treating diseases and other health issues.
Some people, however, are skeptical that this form of alternative medicine can help them manage blood pressure. Kansas City, Missouri, resident Liz Gonzalez recommends that skeptics keep an open mind.
“I have tried acupuncture to treat backpain and digestive problems,” Gonzalez said. “However, I’m not sure how effective it may be when treating high blood pressure issues. I would encourage people to try it and see if it helps. I swear on it because it has helped with other health issues.”
Typically, Western medicine practitioners advise people with high blood pressure to exercise and eat healthy, rather than use acupuncture to treat their condition.
High blood pressure is defined as any reading of 140-180 hg over 90-99 mm hg. Healthy blood pressure is 119/79 or lower.
