Debate Republicano: Los moderadores fueron un fracaso

Politica

CNBC-hosted “debate” was a disaster

Moderators were out to get Republican debate candidates
Commentary by Dermidio Juez-Perez
The latest Republican debate was far from pleasing.
Hosted by CNBC on Oct. 28 from the University of Colorado in Boulder, it was filled with awkward moments, silly questions, rudeness and constant interruptions. Conservatives and liberals agreed it was a disaster.
The problem wasn’t the candidates. It was the moderators.
Carl Quintanilla, Becky Quick and John Hardwood moderated the evening’s second most important event, with Game 2 of the World Series between the Kansas City Royals and New York Mets being the most important. They performed worse than the Mets, who lost 7-1 at Kauffman Stadium.
All joking aside, it’s unfortunate that the moderators’ lack of professionalism became a story in and of itself, overshadowing a presidential debate’s objective – to learn where candidates stand on subjects THAT MATTER.
“Are we truly talking about fantasy football?” candidate and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie asked incredulously. This was after Quintanilla had asked Jeb Bush if online gaming should be regulated, with Bush spending his time bragging about his performance playing the game. Such was the kind of “incisive” give and take that dominated a night that was expected to be the most important debate for many of the candidates.
By night’s end, the candidates and audience members were fed up with the moderators. Candidate and U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz brilliantly confronted them.
“The questions that have been asked so far in this debate illustrate why the American people don’t trust the media,” Cruz commented. “This is not a cage match. And if you look at the questions — Donald Trump, are you a comic book villain? Ben Carson, can you do math? Marco Rubio, why don’t you resign? Jeb Bush, why have your numbers fallen? How about talking about substantive issues?”
I hope future moderators take this debate as an example of what NOT to do. If they do, then American voters will get to hear what the candidates have to say about subjects that matter.
