El senador y candidato presidencial demócrata Bernie Sanders anunció recientemente que apoyaría una legislación para legalizar la mariguana.
Durante un discurso en la Universidad George Mason, Sanders dijo que el gobierno federal debería intervenir y quitar la mariguana de su lista de drogas peligrosas e ilegales, la cual también contiene la heroína y sales de baño.
“Demasiados americanos han visto sus vidas destruidas porque tienen antecedentes criminales como resultado del uso de la mariguana. Eso está mal, tiene que cambiar”, dijo él.
The Atlantic citó a Sanders diciendo “debió haberse hecho hace mucho tiempo” que el gobierno norteamericano quite a la mariguana de su “lista de drogas ilegales”.
“En mi opinión, los estados deben tener el derecho de regular la mariguana de la misma manera que las leyes estatales y locales ahora gobiernan las ventas de alcohol y tabaco”, la publicación citó al senador.
El discurso de Sanders fue muy apoyado por el público. Yazmin López está entre esos residentes del área de Kansas City que apoyan la opinión de Sanders.
“Pienso que es… hora de que el gobierno vea lo que la gente realmente quiere”, dijo López. “Yo apoyo… el uso de la mariguana mientras que sea uso médico. Al legalizar la mariguana, podríamos prevenir varios crímenes en el país”.
Durante una entrevista publicada en Facebook, el periodista Jorge Ramos le preguntó a Sanders si él alguna vez había fumado mariguana. El senador respondió “Lo hice un par de veces. No me hizo mucho bien, terminé tosiendo mucho”.

Sanders wants to legalize marijuana

U.S. Sen. and Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders recently announced he would support legislation legalizing marijuana.
During a speech at George Mason University, Sanders said the federal government should step in and remove marijuana from its list of dangerous and illegal drugs, which also includes heroin and bath salts.
“Too many Americans have seen their lives destroyed because they have criminal records as a result of marijuana use,” he said. “That’s wrong. That has got to change.”
The Atlantic quoted Sanders as saying “the time is long overdue for” the U.S. government to remove marijuana from its “list of outlawed drugs.”
“In my view, states should have the right to regulate marijuana the same way that state and local laws now govern sales of alcohol and tobacco,” the publication quoted the senator as saying.
Sanders’ speech was highly supported by the crowd. Yazmin Lopez is among those Kansas City area residents who support Sanders’ view.
“I think it is … time for the government to see what the people really want,” Lopez said. “I support … marijuana usage, as long as is medical. By legalizing marijuana, we could prevent several crimes in the country.”
During an interview posted on Facebook, journalist Jorge Ramos asked Sanders if he had ever smoked marijuana. The senator replied: “I have a couple of times. Didn’t do me much good. I ended (up) coughing a lot.”
