El 12 de noviembre, la Coalición Latina de Olathe organizó su primera Exposición de Empresarios en Indian Creek Community Church en Olathe, Kansas.
“Empezamos a discutir las necesidades de los latinos de Olathe en 2011 – y en base a comentarios de la comunidad, nos centramos en cinco o seis cosas que la comunidad nos dijo que son importantes para ellos”, comentó Mary Lou Jaramillo, miembro de la organización. “El comité sentía que esto era algo que podían hacer para contribuir a la comunidad latina – (para permitir que los empresarios conocieran) los recursos que están disponibles y dónde acudir en busca de ayuda si quieren iniciar o hacer crecer sus negocios.”
De acuerdo con un comunicado de la organización, la Coalición Latina de Olathe se esfuerza por capacitar y apoyar a los dueños de negocios locales, proporcionando educación y recursos. Durante la feria, los empresarios hispanos locales tuvieron la oportunidad de aprender acerca de los recursos, desarrollo de plan de negocios y otras tácticas de negocios.
El evento también incluyó un curso de introducción a QuickBooks. Diseñadora gráfica Nancy Barrientos expresó que los empresarios necesitan aprender acerca de software de negocios para ser más eficientes.
“Al ofrecer clases de QuickBooks, queremos ayudar a los dueños de negocios hispanos a tener éxito al reflejar buenas habilidades de administración de empresas, no importa cuán grande o pequeña sea la empresa”, dijo Barrientos.
Barrientos asistió en nombre del evento patrocinar KIPU Solutions. Otros patrocinadores locales incluyen Google Fiber, la Cámara de Comercio de Olathe y la ciudad de Olathe.
Jaramillo cree que la cantidad de la planificación y los voluntarios involucrados en la organización del evento dio sus frutos.
“(Todos los voluntarios) contribuyeron con su tiempo y su experiencia”, dijo Jaramillo. “Honestamente, este es probablemente el mejor ejemplo que tengo de personas que se unen y (están) dispuestos a trabajar juntos para hacer algo por la comunidad.”
Olathe Latino Coalition hosts Entrepreneurs Expo

On Nov. 12, the Olathe Latino Coalition hosted its first Entrepreneurs Expo at Indian Creek Community Church in Olathe, Kan.
“We started discussing the needs of Latinos of Olathe in 2011 – and based on community feedback, we started focusing on five to six things that the community was telling us was important to them,” said Mary Lou Jaramillo, coalition member at large. “The committee felt like this was something they could do to share with the Latino community – (to let entrepreneurs know) the resources that are available and where to turn to for help if they want to start or grow their business.”
According to a statement by the organization, the Olathe Latino Coalition strives to empower and support local business owners by providing education and resources. During the expo, local Hispanic business owners had opportunities to learn about resources, business plan development and other business tactics.
The event also included an introductory course to QuickBooks. Graphic designer Nancy Barrientos expressed that business owners need to learn about business software to be more efficient.
“By offering QuickBooks lessons, we want to help Hispanic business owners to be successful by reflecting good business administration skills, no matter how big or small the business is,” Barrientos said.
Barrientos attended on behalf of event sponsor KIPU Solutions. Other local sponsors included Google Fiber, the Olathe Chamber of Commerce and the city of Olathe.
Jaramillo believed the amount of planning and volunteering involved in staging the event paid off.
“(All volunteers) contributed their time and their expertise,” Jaramillo said. “Honestly, this is probably the best example I have of people coming together and (being) willing to work together to do something for the community.”
