El 19 de noviembre, el Centro de Mattie Rhodes celebró su sexto almuerzo anual “Iluminando Vidas, Construyendo Futuros” en el Hotel Kansas City Marriott Downtown para recaudar fondos y dar reconocimiento a miembros de la comunidad.
John Fierro, presidente y CEO, abrió la ceremonia dando la bienvenida a los asistentes y resaltar su visión para los esfuerzos de progreso de la comunidad en el futuro cercano.
“Los valores que apoyamos en Mattie Rhodes son lo que nos hace únicos y nos posicionan para el futuro”, dijo Fierro. “Esos valores nos permiten crear un ambiente saludable que es, naturalmente, inclusivo y donde todos están emocionalmente y físicamente seguros.”
Juan M. Rangel Jr., director de Gateway to College en Donnelly College, fue el conferencista principal. Rangel comenzó su discurso destacando el modo en que Mattie Rhodes ayuda a la comunidad y cómo ha evolucionado para reflejar las necesidades de la comunidad.
“(Con el tiempo), Mattie Rhodes se aseguró de evolucionar junto con la población de la ciudad”, dijo Rangel. “Eso es fundamental, ya que define lo que somos como una ciudad que está en cambiando constantemente.”
Tras el discurso de apertura, Fierro presentó el Premio al Servicio MRC 2015 a la Fiscal del condado de Jackson (MO) Jean Peters Baker por su constante servicio de 10 años a la comunidad. Baker, aceptó el premio en nombre de la fiscalía del condado de Jackson, reconoció a John Fierro y los esfuerzos de Mattie Rhodes por su dedicación a la comunidad.
“Mattie Rhodes ha estado sirviendo constantemente y apasionadamente a la comunidad”, dijo ella. “Ellos trabajan para asegurar que todo el mundo pueda estar en una comunidad saludable y segura, sin importar la raza, el color o el lugar donde viven.”

Mattie Rhodes hosts annual luncheon

On Nov. 19, the Mattie Rhodes Center held its sixth annual “Brightening Lives, Building Futures” luncheon at the Kansas City Marriott Downtown Hotel to raise funds and recognize community members.
John Fierro, president and CEO, opened the ceremony by welcoming the audience and outlining his vision for community advancement efforts in the near future.
“The values that we hold at Mattie Rhodes are what make us unique and position us for the future,” Fierro said. “Those values allow us to create a healthy environment that’s naturally inclusive and where everyone is emotionally and physically safe.”
Juan M. Rangel Jr., director of Gateway to College at Donnelly College, was the keynote speaker. Rangel began his speech by outlining how Mattie Rhodes helps the community and how it has evolved to reflect the community’s changing needs.
“(Over time), Mattie Rhodes made sure it evolved as the population of the city continued to grow,” Rangel said. “That is critical because it defines who we are as a city that’s constantly changing.”
Following the keynote speech, Fierro presented the 2015 MRC Service Award to Jackson County (Mo.) Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker for her continued, 10-year service to the community. Baker accepted the award on behalf of the Jackson County Prosecutors Office, recognized John Fierro and the efforts of Mattie Rhodes for its dedication to the community.
“Mattie Rhodes has been consistently and passionately serving the community,” she said. “They work to ensure that everyone can be in a healthy and safe community, regardless of race, color or where they live.”
