Cambio climático afecta la salud

Climate

Evite tirar basura y no utilice artículos desechables.

Climate change affects your health

Commentary by Chara

According to the National Resources Defense Council, climate change is one of the most serious public health threats America is facing – and people aren’t aware of it.
The potential effects of climate change on a person’s health include dehydration, respiratory problems and the development of infectious diseases. Climate change causes various phenomena that aggravate those conditions, including the following:
*Extreme heat: When hot weather persists, you can become dehydrated. During periods of extreme heat, drink plenty of fluids and stay hydrated.
*Infectious diseases: Hot weather prompts insects to be active for longer periods. Thus, mosquitos and ticks are more likely to spread illnesses such as dengue and Lyme disease. To avoid getting diseases during periods of hot weather, use repellents and avoid staying outside for long periods of time.
*Poor air quality and pollution: When there’s sunlight, warm air and pollution ozone levels rise, causing poor air quality. If you breathe that air, you might develop serious respiratory conditions. When there’s air pollution, try to stay inside to avoid breathing air that might damage your lungs.
Although the effects of climate change vary by region, consider taking precautions, particularly if you’re responsible for a child or someone who’s elderly. Often, babies, young children and the elderly tend to fall ill faster – and sometimes if they don’t receive the proper, care they’ll die.
To help reduce the effects of climate change, become an eco-friendly person. Take care of the planet. Save water and energy. Avoid littering and using disposable items. After all, if the planet is healthy, you probably will be, too.
