Un voto unánime ha determinado el futuro Metcalf South Shopping Center – y parece que va a ser un futuro brillante.
El 1 de agosto, el consejo de Overland Park, Kansas., votó para aprobar un proyecto de $ 80 millones para derribar la instalación original y construir un nuevo centro comercial muy necesario en su lugar. El centro comercial existente será derribado a excepción del edificio donde se encuentra Sears, ya que es propiedad ajena.

El plan aprobado no es el primer plan propuesto por los inversores. El plan original, que fue propuesto en el 2015, era más grande – y, a diferencia del plan aprobado, incluía dinero público para ayudar a financiar el desarrollo.
El último plan incluye 305.000 pies cuadrados de espacio comercial, 165.000 pies cuadrados para una tienda Lowe y 1.248 plazas de aparcamiento.
El desarrollo ha sido bien recibido por la población local. A huge investment for Overland Park’s future

A unanimous vote has determined the Metcalf South Shopping Center’s future – and it appears it’ll be a bright future.
On Aug. 1, the Overland Park, Kan., City Council voted to approve an $80 million project to tear down the original facility and build a much-needed new shopping center in its place. The existing mall will be torn down except for the building where Sears is located, as it’s separately owned.
Demolition of the 600,000-square-foot infrastructure is expected to take place as early as the end of November. The impressive new facility is to be concluded by the spring or summer of 2018.
The approved plan isn’t the first plan proposed by the developers. The original plan, which was proposed in 2015, was bigger – and unlike the approved plan, it included public money to help fund the development. The latest plan includes 305,000 square feet of retail space, a 165,000-square-foot Lowe’s store and 1,248 parking spaces.
The development has been well-received by locals. In fact, many of them agree it’ll be a key factor in reestablishing and stimulating the local economy.
“I can tell you that I have received a lot of very positive comments from people who live around that mall and that are anxious to see it get redeveloped – and the sooner, the better in their minds,” stated Paul Lyons, an Overland Park city councilman.
This is a great investment for Overland Park, with benefits that will extend well beyond the city limits. Indeed, it appears Metcalf South isn’t the only place with a bright future in store.
