Área bufete de abogados celebran su 10 aniversario

Solorio

Area law firm celebrating 10th anniversary

By Katherine Diaz
This year marks the 10th anniversary for the Solorio & Avila Law Firm LLC in Mission, Kan.
“I really feel proud because it’s been a great opportunity for us to serve our clients here in the Kansas City area,” immigration attorney Alejandro Solorio said. “Over the years, we’ve helped a lot of people – and it’s just been a great opportunity for us to do these types of people services.”
Solorio and associate immigration attorney Janell Avila, who joined the firm one year after its establishment, were both influenced by their family backgrounds and interest in law to pursue their careers as immigration attorneys.
“I’m a first-generation Latin American, so I feel more connected to the immigrant community,” Avila said.
But Avila’s true interest in immigration law was sparked when she undertook an immigration law clinic in her third year at the DePaul University College of Law. There, she worked on various cases – and during the year-long clinic study, Avila came to understand the expectations in this field of practice.
“Doing the class really allowed me to see what it was really going to be like to practice immigration law when I was still in law school,” she said. “And so from there, I immediately started working in that area. And that’s what I did right out of law school.”
For Solorio, his parents were a major influence in his pursuit of a career as an immigration attorney.
“I grew up with parents that emigrated from another country, and I saw the need there for someone to represent those individuals,” Solorio said. “The fact that I had the opportunity to go to law school just made for a great opportunity to come back and serve the community.”
Immigration law is ever-changing, so there’s always something new to learn, according to Solorio.
Solorio and Avila feel that it has been a great accomplishment to have been recognized through the years for their work in the community.
“We want to continue to bring immigration services to the community – and also to help advocate for positive change in immigration law,” Solorio said.
As for the coming years, Solorio and Avila hope to see their firm expand and include more individuals who strive to help others.
