Kansas and Missouri offer their share of haunted places

If you live in the Kansas City area and believe that some of the scariest places to visit are far away, then you’re wrong.
Between Kansas and Missouri, there a few places that many people refuse to visit because of previous claims of paranormal activity. If you believe in evil spirits, haunted houses and strange activity, below are three locations of some of the most memorable allegedly haunted places in Kansas and Missouri:
*Stull (Kan.) Cemetery: This cemetery might seem harmless at first, but it has a history, especially related to its stone church. It has gained a reputation for being one of the seven gateways to Hell, courtesy of the various legends involving witchcraft and satanic cults. Adding credence to that reputation is a stairway by the stone church that leads downward. Whether it leads to the underworld or Satan appears during your visit, remember that visitors are advised not to visit the location after hours – and trespassers will be fined.
*Belvoir Winery, Liberty, Mo.: The site of the Belvoir Winery was initially built in 1900 as a hospital, orphanage and old folk’s home. Through the years, visitors have reportedly encountered mysterious voices of men, women and children laughing while there’s seemingly no one else there. Other strange activity has included the openings and closings of doors, and the sounds of people running.
Such paranormal activities have made the Belvoir Winery a popular haunted house destination of sorts. With its rich history, it’s no wonder it’s been deemed as one of the best-known haunted places.
You can still visit the winery, as it continues to host public and private events, and serves as a wedding venue.
*John Wornall House, Kansas City, Mo.: Dating back to the Civil War era, this house has gained a reputation among neighbors and visitors for its allegedly suspicious activity. Odd noises can be heard, along with suspicious voices. And some visitors have claimed to have seen ghosts, such as armed soldiers.
Given it’s among the area’s oldest homes, it’s understandable why so many claim the house is haunted. If you’re brave enough, there are ghost tours, which visitors can participate in and hear about the house’s strange happenings.
