Jackie Cruz, better known as “Flaca” in Orange is the New lack has been in the middle of different facets of entertaining, including singing and acting.
The name of Jackie Cruz ranks high among the list of famous Latinos in Hollywood under 40 years old alongside  names the likes of Eva Longoria and Selena Gomez. Of Dominican heritage, Jackie has exceled in the world of television and will keep giving her best in her career as a professional. In an interview with Dos Mundos she talked to us about her present and future projects.

Dos Mundos: how did you decide to enter this career?
Jackie Cruz: I went to the movies and when I watched the movie The Bodyguard, and I listened to Whitney Houston singing, I told my mom that I wanted to be a singer. So she put me in lessons and she could see that›s what I really wanted. When I turned 15 years old we moved from Dominican Republic to California, and that›s where I went to an Academy of arts school and I studied acting and singing. That›s how I got started.

DM: so everything is started as a child?
JC: Yes, and it was not an easy road. It was difficult because I am the Latina that Hollywood is used to seeing. I had long, curly hair, dark skin, speaking in Spanish. They didn›t know which role to give me or what ethnicity to play.   Yet 10 years later, here I am. It was an effort all my life and I learned that you cannot set a time limit on your dreams, if that is what you want, you will achieve it. The most important thing that I can say is that you should always continue with your passion.
DM: how did you get the participation in Orange is the New Black?
JC: I went to one audition for two lines. They did something in La Plaza and in the first season I did seven episodes, after that they gradually increased. My role keeps growing and that has made me feel more confident in my acting and I felt that I was doing things right. I worked for my roles and I am very happy for who Flaca has become.
DM: How is Flaca? Is she like you?
It is my second self, I wish I could be more like her. I think we have things in common like the music, but she is much cooler than me. And definitely was cooler than me in high school, she had more friends than me. I would love to be more like her
DM: what plans do you have for the future?
This is just the beginning for me. Plans mmm… I have a lot of dreams. I am starting my own production company. I am very excited because I am doing a small production. I am  also doing auditions for another projects in Hollywood such as independent movies. I would love to create something of my own.
DM: send a message to the people in KC:
JC: Thank you for your support for Flaca and the series Orange is the New Black. The fifth season is going to be strong, so please watch it.

DM: ¿Cómo se da tu participación en Orange Is The New Black?
