Washington, DC — Today, while announcing an executive order that severely slashes the permitting process for infrastructure projects, Donald Trump answered questions about his comments, and lack thereof, on the horrific events that transpired in Charlottesville, VA on August 11th and 12th.
In response, Sierra Club Executive Director Michael Brune released the following statement:“Donald Trump was supposed to tout his plans to rebuild America’s infrastructure, but after his seven months in office and his disgraceful remarks today, it’s clear that the only thing he’s built is a larger platform for Nazis, bigots, and white supremacists. Work must be done to fix not just our aging infrastructure, but our society.
“Today, as with countless other days during this Administration, Trump has made it clear that he will continue to seek to silence those who oppose his unpopular, divisive agenda. This divisive agenda includes the directive Trump announced today, which seeks to shut out the American public when it comes to the threats posed by dirty projects that corporate polluters want to jam through their communities.
“This order would result in an environmental justice crisis, similar to Trump’s approval of the Dakota Access Pipeline, during which he silenced the Standing Rock Sioux’s call for a full environmental review while keeping the White House phone lines down.
“After today, it has become more obvious than ever that Trump does not care about the public and he clearly does not care about justice. We, as a people, can and must do better.”
La Infraestructura de Trump Construye Odio, y No un Futuro
Washington, DC — Donald Trump, al mismo tiempo que anunció hoy una orden ejecutiva que reduce drásticamente el proceso de permisos de proyectos de infraestructura, respondió a preguntas sobre sus comentarios, o la falta de ellos, sobre los horrorosos incidentes que ocurrieron en Charlottesville, VA, el 11 y 12 de agosto.
Como respuesta, el director ejecutivo del Sierra Club, Michael Brune, emitió la siguiente declaración.
“Se suponía que Donald Trump iba a dar a conocer sus planes para reconstruir la infraestructura de Estados Unidos, pero tras siete meses de presidencia y sus vergonzosas declaraciones de hoy, está claro que lo único que ha construido es una mayor plataforma para los nazis, racistas y supremacistas blancos. Tenemos que trabajar en reconstruir no sólo nuestra infraestructura, sino también nuestra sociedad.
“Hoy, junto con tantos otros días de su administración, Trump ha dejado claro que seguirá intentado silenciar a quienes se oponen a su agenda impopular y divisiva. Esto incluye la directiva que Trump emitió hoy, la cual impedirá al público estadounidense expresarse cuando se trate de proyectos industriales sucios que los contaminadores quieran imponer a las comunidades del país.
“Esta orden resultará en una crisis de injusticias ambientales, similares a la aprobación de Trump del Oleoducto Dakota Access, durante la cual silenció a los Sioux de Standing Rock que solicitaron una revisión ambiental completa del proyecto y la Casa Blanca nunca respondió.
“Después de hoy, ha quedado más claro que a Trump nunca le importa el público ni la justicia. Nosotros, el pueblo, podemos y tenemos que hacerlo mejor ”.
