According to the National Commission of Human Rights (Comision Nacional de Derechos Humanos in Spanish) in Mexico, the deportation of undocumented immigrants has increased lately because of the “xenophobic and racist” politics of U.S. President Donald Trump.
Since Trump took office on Jan. 20, the number of deportations has increased by 33 percent, compared to the deportations over the same period last year. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement reportedly deported more than 84,473 undocumented immigrants between Feb. 1 and June 30.
“We have not seen a wave of massive deportation. We have seen an increase in the (number of) arrests and the entrance of undocumented immigrants to the United States,” Luis Raul Gonzalez Perez, head of the National Commission of Human Rights, was quoted by the newspaper La Jornada as saying. “For this reason, I have requested preventative measures to the Inter-American Commission of Human Rights.”
More immigrants were deported under the Obama administration than any president in U.S. history. However, many people fear that President Trump will break Obama’s record, including some Kansas City area residents.
“I’m scared that our community … (will break) apart. During the Obama administration, a lot of people were deported and many families were separated”, Kansas City, Mo., resident Mariela Munoz (Muñoz in Spanish) said. “With Trump leading the country, I don’t know what is going to happen. I feel scared and sad because I’m not sure how far he’ll go.”
Obama’s deportation policy focused on deporting criminals, gang members, non-citizens convicted of felonies or aggravated felonies and non-citizens apprehended immediately at the border. The Trump administration is going in another direction. Trump has ordered authorities to arrest and deport anyone violating U.S. immigration law. His other attempts to address immigration issues include pushing for a law that punishes parents who bring undocumented children into the United States.

Según la Comisión Nacional de Derechos Humanos en México, la deportación de inmigrantes indocumentados ha aumentado últimamente debido a la política “xenófoba y racista” del presidente estadounidense Donald Trump.
Desde que Trump entró en cargo el 20 de enero, el número de deportaciones aumentó en un 33 por ciento, en comparación con las deportaciones registradas en el mismo período del año pasado. De acuerdo a los informes, el Departamento de Inmigración y Aduanas de los Estados Unidos deportó más de 84,473 inmigrantes indocumentados entre el 1 de febrero y el 30 de junio.
“No hemos visto una ola de deportación masiva. Hemos visto un aumento en el número de detenciones y el ingreso de inmigrantes indocumentados a Estados Unidos”, mencionó Luis Raúl González Pérez, jefe de la Comisión Nacional de Derechos Humanos, citado por el diario La Jornada. “Por esta razón, he solicitado medidas preventivas a la Comisión Interamericana de Derechos Humanos”.
Más inmigrantes fueron deportados bajo el gobierno de Obama que cualquier presidente en la historia de los Estados Unidos. Sin embargo, mucha gente teme que el presidente Trump rompa el récord de Obama, incluyendo a algunos residentes del área de Kansas City.

La política de deportación de Obama se centró en deportar criminales, pandilleros, indocumentados condenados por delitos graves o delitos condenados y no ciudadanos aprehendidos inmediatamente en la frontera.
