London Underground targeted by terrorist bombing

Suspects in custody
On Sept. 15, the world’s oldest subway system – and one of its busiest – was the target of a terrorist attack.
That morning, a bomb wrapped in a plastic grocery bag and concealed in a bucket exploded while a subway train was arriving at a London Underground station, leaving 30 people injured. Most of the injuries reportedly resulted from a panicked rush to escape, rather than from the explosion itself.
The attack at Parsons Green – an elevated station in an affluent part of London – was the first terrorist attack involving London’s rail transit system since a 2005 bombing killed 52 people, according to The New York Times. Through an online message, the Islamic State terrorist group claimed responsibility for the latest attack.
“Our city utterly condemns the hideous individuals who attempt to use terror to harm us and destroy our way of life,” stated London Mayor Sadiq Khan via a Facebook post. “As London has proven again and again, we will never be intimidated or defeated by terrorism.”
At press time, authorities had arrested two men believed to have been involved with the attack. On Sept. 16, multiple news sources reported the arrest of an 18-year-old, who remains in custody. Later that day, authorities reportedly arrested a 21-year-old man, who was detained under Great Britain’s Terrorism Act. But despite the arrests, the British intelligence agency MI5 stated on its website as of this writing that Britain’s terrorism level for international terrorism was set at “severe,” meaning another terrorist incident was considered highly probable.
U.S. President Donald Trump accused the London Metropolitan Police of knowing the attacker’s identity, but failing to prevent the incident. He posted on Twitter: “Another attack in London by a loser terrorist. These are sick and demented people who were in the sights of Scotland Yard. Must be proactive!”
Trump’s tweet prompted a reaction from British Prime Minister Theresa May, who stated: “I never think it’s helpful for anybody to speculate on what is an ongoing investigation. The police and security services are working to discover the full circumstances of this cowardly attack and to identify all those responsible.”
Social media users showed support for the victims by posting messages using the hashtag #PrayForLondon.
“The cowardly terrorist attack is extremely condemnable,” activist Suhaib Saqib posted. “Our thoughts are with those affected by the incident. #PrayForLondon #ParsonsGreen.”

Metro de Londres atacado por atentado terrorista

Sospechosos bajo custodia
#PrayForLondon #ParsonsGreen. “
