Dra. Nancy Álarez: We are all responsible for sexual abuse

Sexual abuse causes great damage to victims, even more, when they are minors. This abuse is considered a crime because it negatively and permanently affects the quality of the victim’s lives.
Sexual abuse affects victims in all their facets: in their sexuality, their relationships, work, and emotional development. By committing abuse, the psychological and physical boundaries that every human has been violated and the trust in oneself and others is destroyed. Much more if the abuser is a figure that must protect the child. This causes insecurity and depression in abused children and can have several consequences such as alcoholism, personality disorders, inability to trust others, fear of privacy, etc.
Some of the protective figures can include parents, uncles, teachers and even the priest, whom the children and many parents see as a special being that represents God on earth. Even more terrible is that the child always believes that he is the one to blame for what is happening. He is sure that he provokes it and this fills him with fears and leads him to don’t communicate to his parents what is happening. This is why every time abuse lasts and harms more and more deeply. Many child molesters threaten to kill their parents if they report the abuse.
It is the responsibility of society and therefore from each of its members to care for their children. The Church, the media and each of us must act upon learning about sexual abuse. If we do not do it, we become accomplices.
It is time to meditate once again on the immense responsibility that we have on our shoulders. Those who can reach millions of people, who writes in a newspaper, who goes out on a television program or the famous that can influence their fans. And not to mention the journalists and communicators who “sell” to the highest bidder to distort and hide that news, writing lies and silencing truths, among many other things. I wonder if those people can sleep in peace. We are responsible for the chaos that exists in the world and we do nothing to make our children feel proud of us. In other words, we do not leave any legacy, we go through the world WITHOUT PASSING.
There is an urgent need to talk and educate on the subject to give children tools to defend themselves and say NO to any undue touch that an adult makes.
Remember:
* Do not force a child to kiss an adult.
•Encourage communication with your child, never fear
* Learn what to do if your child is a victim of sexual abuse.

Recuerde:
