Our Lady of Unity holds annual Unity Fest, despite rain

On Sept. 8, Our Lady of Unity Parish held its eighth annual Unity Fest on the field of the school grounds.
Weather conditions during the days leading up to the event caused some people to wonder if it would take place. Organizer Virginia Oropeza said she received calls from people requesting confirmation that the event was still a go.
Although there was some rain the day of the event, that didn’t stop people from coming and enjoying it, she said.
“The enthusiasm didn’t end,” Oropeza said.
There was a soccer tournament, and traditional Mexican food was sold throughout the day. Children and adults also could participate by performing.
“The people in the parish shared their talent … singing, dancing,” Oropeza said.
Oropeza is happy with the results. Although the parish is still figuring out how much money was raised, Oropeza thinks it was a success.
“The people came out, not only from our community, but from other parishes … – and that’s beautiful for us,” she said.
