Dean being honored with Nuestra Latina Award for philanthropy
Guadalupe Dean believes that education is a key tool for success.
Thanks to the foundation she founded with her husband, Dean has helped students obtain that tool and achieve their dreams. And her work has drawn interest from the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Greater Kansas City (HCC), which has named her as the recipient of a Nuestra Latina Award for philanthropy.
Born in Camargo, Chihuahua, Mexico, Dean settled in the United States in 1996. Leaving Mexico for the United States was a life-changing experience.
“It was a different world for me,” she said.
Dean went on to found Mi Rancho Tequila, a family business she owns with her husband Michael.
“Mi Rancho Tequila has been one of our dreams, and thanks (to) God, it is becoming a reality,” she said.
In addition to the business, Dean works for the La Familia Dean-Lozoya Foundation, the foundation she and her husband established to help students, particularly female students.
“We believe that education is the main tool to achieve success,” she said.
The HCC will honor Dean for her work with the foundation during the Nuestra Latina Awards ceremony, scheduled for 5:30-8 p.m. Aug. 29 at the University of Kansas Edwards Campus in Overland Park.
Being nominated for the award was a surprise to Dean. She feels humbled and honored, she said.
Dean is dedicating her award to her father.
“My father was a strong man who taught me to help those in need,” she said.
Dean wants to thank all the HCC members, particularly Carlos Gomez, Marcela Aguirre, Zoraya Rowlands and Yeni Jennings, for the support her family has received – and for all the HCC does for the Hispanic community.
“I (also) want to express my admiration and respect to all the other women who are receiving a Nuestra Latina Award,” she said. “Their careers have impacted our community and they are role models.”
Dean, however, does not call herself a role model.
“I’m not sure if I’m a role model, but I’m sure all women have the strength to achieve what we want,” she said. “No one has the right to tell us that we can’t achieve our goals.”

Guadalupe Dean cree que la educación es una herramienta clave para el éxito.
Gracias a la fundación que creó con su esposo, Dean ha ayudado a los estudiantes a obtener esa herramienta para alcanzar sus sueños. Y su trabajo ha despertado el interés de la Cámara de Comercio Hispana del Gran Kansas City (HCC), que la nombró como la receptora del Premio Nuestra Latina a la filantropía.
Nacida en Camargo, Chihuahua, México, Dean se mudó a Estados Unidos en 1996. Dejar México por los Estados Unidos fue una experiencia que cambió la vida.
“Era un mundo diferente para mí”, dijo.
Dean fundó Mi Rancho Tequila, un negocio familiar que posee con su esposo Michael.
“Mi Rancho Tequila ha sido uno de nuestros sueños, y gracias a Dios, se está haciendo realidad”, dijo.
Además del negocio, Dean trabaja para la Fundación La Familia Dean-Loyoza, la fundación que ella y su esposo establecieron para ayudar a estudiantes, especialmente a las estudiantes.
“Creemos que la educación es la herramienta principal para lograr el éxito”, dijo.
La HCC honrará a Dean por su trabajo con la fundación durante la ceremonia de entrega de Premios Nuestra Latina, programada para las 5: 30-8 p.m. el 29 de agosto en el Edwards campus de la Universidad de Kansas en Overland Park.
Ser nominada para el premio fue una sorpresa para Dean. Ella se siente humilde y honrada, dijo.
Dean está dedicando su premio a su padre.
“Mi padre era un hombre fuerte que me enseñó a ayudar a los necesitados”, dijo.
Dean quiere agradecer a todos los miembros de HCC, en particular a Carlos Gómez, Marcela Aguirre, Zoraya Rowlands y Yeni Jennings, por el apoyo que su familia ha recibido y por todo lo que la HCC hace por la comunidad hispana.
“(También) quiero expresar mi admiración y respeto a todas las otras mujeres que reciben un Premio Nuestra Latina”, dijo. “Sus carreras han impactado a nuestra comunidad y son modelos a seguir”.
Dean, sin embargo, no se llama a sí misma un modelo a seguir.
“No estoy segura si soy un modelo a seguir, pero estoy segura de que todas las mujeres tienen la fuerza para lograr lo que queremos”, dijo. “Nadie tiene derecho a decirnos que no podemos lograr nuestras metas”.
