“Eli” Lugo, local singer seeks success

“Eli” Lugo to perform at Fiesta Hispana

When Elizabeth “Eli” Lugo started singing at age 6, her mother, Vickie Lugo, thought it was a game.
It was not.
Over time, Vickie Lugo realized singing was something her child wanted to do and began supporting her daughter’s interest in performing. That support has led to her daughter performing at this year’s Fiesta Hispana.
To achieve that honor, the 11-year-old Kansas City area resident has worked with several singing teachers, who have helped her develop her talent.
“First, we started working with … (the) teacher Sandra Zamora,” Vickie Lugo said. “Thanks to the things she taught Eli, she won second place at ‘Mi Talento Kids’ (‘My Talent, Kids’), a contest … (for) children in Kansas City. Now, Eli has three different teachers that have helped to control her voice and develop her talent.”
Those teachers include Victor Olvera, Luis Portillo and Fedra Cooper.
“All of them have supported and encouraged my child to achieve her dreams,” Vickie Lugo said.
A few famous singers have encouraged Eli Lugo by inspiring her. Her favorite singers include Marco Antonio Solis, the late Jenni Rivera and the late Selena Quintanilla.
The youngster will perform at 7 p.m. Saturday (Sept. 14) at Fiesta Hispana. The annual festival will take place on the Barney Ellis Plaza, located at 301 W. 13th St. in Kansas City, Missouri.
“People should come to see me,” she said. “They are going to like it. It is going to be my first time singing live, so it is going to be a new experience to me.”
Eli’s mother feels “extremely happy” and wants “to support her and (help her) get as far as we can get,” she said.
“Singing has taught her discipline and has encouraged her to achieve her dreams,” Vickie Lugo said. “We are very grateful … (to) all her teachers. … I always try to motivate her, so she can keep moving forward in her career.”

Esos maestros incluyen a Víctor Olvera, Luis Portillo y Fedra Cooper.
