Guadalupe Centers Inc. (GCI) hosted its annual Blanco y Negro Awards Gala on Sept. 21.
Hosted in the Grand Ballroom of the Kansas City Convention Center, the gala also served as GCI’s centennial celebration. This year, in honor of the 100-year anniversary, the event featured special guests and political strategist Ana Navarro as the keynote speaker, silent and live auctions, and world-class entertainment, like Mariachi Azteca de America.
The event kicked off Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15-Oct. 15) festivities in Kansas City. It also served as an opportunity for GCI to honor outstanding individuals and institutions that have contributed to the growth and development of GCI and the local Hispanic community.
The 2019 awardees included Gina Coronado, who received the Dorothy Gallagher Award; Jolie Justus, who received the I. Pat Rios Award; Justine E. del Muro, who received the Thomas E. Purcell Award; and Metropolitan Community College, which received the Robert Reeds Award.

GCI organiza celebración de centenario
Guadalupe Centers Inc. (GCI) organizó su Gala de Premios Blanco y Negro el 21 de septiembre.
Alojado en el Gran Salón de Baile del Centro de Convenciones de Kansas City, la gala también sirvió como la celebración del centenario de GCI. Este año, en honor al centenario, el evento contó con invitados especiales y la estratega política Ana Navarro como oradora principal, subastas silenciosa y en vivo, y entretenimiento de clase mundial, como Mariachi Azteca de América.
El evento inició las festividades del Mes de la Herencia Hispana (del 15 de septiembre al 15 de octubre) en Kansas City. También sirvió como una oportunidad para que GCI honrara a individuos e instituciones sobresalientes que han contribuido al crecimiento y desarrollo de GCI y la comunidad hispana local.
Los ganadores de 2019 incluyeron a Gina Coronado, quien recibió el Premio Dorothy Gallagher; Jolie Justus, quien recibió el Premio I. Pat Rios; Justine E. del Muro, quien recibió el Premio Thomas E. Purcell; y Metropolitan Community College, que recibió el Premio Robert Reeds.
