The Lawrence (Kansas) Police Department recently released a statement warning students at the University of Kansas that are staying in the city for the holidays to remain cautious over the semester break.
Along with the Riley County Police Department, where Kansas State University is located, the police say they continue the search for an alleged serial rapist known to attack over holiday breaks near local college campuses.
The police claim they have connected the man to 13 incidents in Lawrence and Manhattan over the past 15 years, but they have not identified or caught the suspect.
“In March of 2009, then Kansas Attorney General Steve Six announced that multiple incidents of rape committed over the course of eight years in both Manhattan and Lawrence appeared to be connected,” said a joint news release from the law enforcement agencies.
Each incident involved a masked intruder entering the victim’s off-campus residence, mostly between 2 and 4:30 a.m. All but one of the attacks coincided with a break in the academic calendar.
In 2017, the police departments released a composite sketch of the alleged rapist. They also have set up a website to help in spreading information about their investigation.
According to the police, the suspect is a white man, between 20 and 30 years at the time of the assaults. The man is between 5 feet, 9 inches and 6 feet tall, with a “prominent stomach” and a medium to thick build.

El Departamento de Policía de Lawrence (Kansas) emitió un comunicado advirtiendo a los estudiantes de la Universidad de Kansas que se quedan en la ciudad por las vacaciones que sean cautelosos durante el receso del semestre.
Junto con el Departamento de Policía del condado de Riley, donde se encuentra Kansas State University, la policía dice que continúan la búsqueda de un presunto violador en serie conocido por atacar durante las vacaciones cerca de los campus universitarios locales.
La policía afirma que han conectado al hombre con 13 incidentes en Lawrence y Manhattan en los últimos 15 años, pero no han identificado ni capturado al sospechoso.
“En marzo de 2009, el entonces Fiscal General de Kansas Steve Six anunció que múltiples incidentes de violación cometidos en el transcurso de ocho años en Manhattan y Lawrence parecían estar relacionados”, dijo un comunicado de prensa conjunto de las agencias policiales.
Cada incidente involucró a un intruso enmascarado que ingresó a la residencia fuera del campus de la víctima, principalmente entre las 2 y las 4:30 a.m. Todos los ataques menos uno coincidieron con una interrupción en el calendario académico.
En 2017, los departamentos de policía publicaron un bosquejo compuesto del presunto violador. También han creado un sitio web para ayudar a difundir información sobre su investigación.
Según la policía, el sospechoso es un hombre caucásico, entre 20 y 30 años en el momento de los asaltos. El hombre mide entre 5 pies, 9 pulgadas y 6 pies de alto, con un “estómago prominente” y una constitución de mediana a gruesa.
