Welcome tourists! In this edition we have to talk about the capital and the biggest city in the state of Colorado: We are talking about Denver. Founded in 1858, the city has almost 700,000 inhabitants while its metropolitan area has a little over 2.8 million inhabitants.
The city has its name because of former Kansas territorial governor James W. Denver and it is famously known as “Queen of the Plains,” due to its important role in the agricultural industry of the plains regions of the state. The city is highly influenced by the Hispanic community, with almost a fourth of the population speaking Spanish.
Round-trip flights from Kansas to Denver have an average cost of $140 and most of them are direct though there are cheaper options that have a layover. Because the downtown area is pretty small, the ideal way to get around it is by foot. From the airport to downtown, you can take the train that takes from one point to the other. Now if you want to visit the national parks close by or explore the suburbs, the ideal thing is to rent a car. The average cost of a room in a 3-star hotel is $90 per night while one in a 5-star hotel is $300 per night. It is worth noting that the high-demand season where prices are higher is winter since it is a highly touristic destination to ski. Some of the traditional food of the region are the breaded testicles of either bull, pig or sheep, in addition to the cuts of American bison meat. Also in the food the strong influence of Mexican food is shown since Denver is the first headquarters of the Chipotle Mexican Grill restaurant chain, among others. The average cost of a full meal is $15.
The places you should not miss during your next visit to the mountainous city of Denver are:
*Civic Center Park: it is one of the largest parks in the downtown area. It has more than 25,000 square feet of green areas where various events of all kinds are held throughout the year. In addition, right in front of it is the City Capitol, and also to the sides are the city and county buildings.
*Denver Art Museum: it has more than 70,000 works of artists from all over the world and from different centuries. It has a collection of Indian art from almost all the indigenous cultures of North America and it also houses the largest collection of art from the American West.
*Rocky Mountain National Park: it is one of the most important mountainous places in the country. This huge park has more than 500 km of various trails in the middle of the majestic mountains, lakes, waterfalls and a great diversity of flora and fauna. The park is crossed by the Colorado River; so in addition to camping, hiking and climbing, fishing and rafting are other excellent options to do here. This park is located about 70 miles north of the city.
*Cherry Creek North: it is the dream come true of any compulsive buyer. This area has more than 320 stores along 16 blocks, where you can find a wide variety of art galleries, boutiques, spas, restaurants, coffee shops and of course a shopping center with the same name, which has more than 160 stores and 40 of them are exclusive to the area. If you are of expensive tastes, you will find in this mall brands such as Louis Vuitton, Burberry, and Ralph Lauren, among others.
*Red Rocks Park: it is one of the main parks in the area. It is located only 24 km (15 miles) west of the city. It has an open-air concert hall recognized worldwide, this is due to the majestic natural acoustics that this area presents, so in addition to enjoying walks between giant rocks, you can enjoy a wide range of concerts that take out here.
There is a wide variety of resorts to practice skiing less than two hours away from the city. Vail and Aspen are the most famous and expensive, but there are also sites like Loveland and Eldora that, in addition to being less than an hour away, are much cheaper.

Bienvenidos turistas, en esta edición nos toca hablar de la capital y además la ciudad más grande del estado de Colorado: nos referimos a Denver, EE.UU. Ciudad fundada en el año de 1858 y que cuenta con cerca de 700 mil habitantes mientras que su área metropolitana cuenta con casi poco más de 2.8 millones de habitantes.
La ciudad lleva su nombre en honor al ex gobernador territorial de Kansas, James W. Denver y es famosamente conocida como la “Reina de las Llanuras” y esto se debe a su importante papel en la industria agrícola de las regiones de las llanuras del estado. La ciudad está altamente influenciada por la comunidad hispana teniendo casi una cuarta parte de la población hablando español.
Los vuelos redondos de Kansas a Denver tienen un costo promedio de $140 y la gran mayoría son directos aunque también hay algunos más económicos con una escala. Debido a que el centro de la ciudad es bastante pequeño lo ideal es moverse a pie. Del aeropuerto al centro se puede usar el tren que te lleva directamente de un punto al otro, ahora que si te quieres mover a los parques nacionales cercanos y recorrer los suburbios de la ciudad lo ideal es rentar un vehículo. El costo promedio de una habitación en un hotel 3 estrellas es de $90 la noche mientras que en un hotel 5 estrellas es de $300 la noche, cabe resaltar que la temporada alta y en donde los precios aumentan es en época de invierno ya que es un destino altamente turístico para ir a esquiar. Algunas de las comidas típicas de la región son los testículos empanizados ya sea de toro, cerdo o borrego, además de los cortes de carne de bisonte americano. También en la comida se muestra la fuerte influencia de la comida mexicana ya que Denver es la primera sede de la cadena de restaurantes “Chipotles Mexican Grill”, entre otros. El costo promedio de una comida completa es de $15.
Los lugares que no deberás perderte en tu próxima visita por la montañosa ciudad de Denver son los siguientes:
*Parque del Centro Cívico: es uno de los parques más grandes que se encuentran en el centro de la ciudad. Cuenta con más de 25 mil pies cuadrados de áreas verdes en donde se llevan a cabo todo el año diversos eventos de todo tipo, además justo enfrente del mismo se encuentra el Capitolio de la ciudad, además de que en sus costados se encuentra el edificio de la ciudad y el del condado.
*Museo de Arte de Denver: cuenta con más de 70 mil obras de artistas de todo el mundo y de distintos siglos. Cuenta con una colección de arte indio de casi todas las culturas indígenas de América del Norte además de que alberga la mayor colección de arte del oeste americano.
*Parque Nacional de las Montañas Rocosas: es uno de los muchos parajes montañosos más importantes del país. Este enorme parque cuenta con más de 500 km de diversos senderos en medio de las majestuosas montañas, lagos, cascadas y con una gran diversidad de flora y fauna. El parque es atravesado por el río Colorado, por lo que además del camping, senderismo y la escalada, la pesca y el rafting son otras excelentes opciones para realizar aquí. Este parque se encuentra a unas 70 millas al norte de la ciudad.
*Cherry Creek North: es el sueño hecho realidad de cualquier comprador compulsivo. Esta zona cuenta con más de 320 tiendas a lo largo de 16 manzanas, en donde podrás encontrar una gran variedad de galerías de arte, boutiques, spas, restaurantes, cafeterías y por supuesto un centro comercial con el mismo nombre, el cual cuenta con más de 160 tiendas y 40 de ellas exclusivas de la zona. Si eres de gustos caros encontrarás en este centro comercial marcas como Louis Vuitton, Burberry, Ralph Lauren entre otros.
*Parque Red Rocks: este es uno de los principales parques de la zona. Se encuentra a tan sólo 24 km (15 millas) al oeste de la ciudad. Cuenta con una sala de conciertos al aire libre reconocida a nivel mundial, esto se debe a la majestuosa acústica natural que presenta esta zona, así que además de disfrutar de caminatas entre rocas gigantes, podrás disfrutar de una gran gama de conciertos que se llevan a cabo aquí.
Existe una gran variedad de resorts para poder practicar el famoso deporte de esquí a menos de dos horas de distancia de la ciudad. Vail y Aspen son los más famosos y costosos, pero también existen sitios como Loveland y Eldora que, además de encontrarse a menos de una hora de distancia, son mucho más económicos.
