League of Women Voters celebrates 1000-year anniversary of women’s suffrage

On Feb. 29, the League of Women Voters celebrated the centenary of women’s right to vote and the foundation of the league at the Yardley Hall at Johnson County Community College.
Attendees listened to remarks from keynote speaker Rosie Rios, former U.S. treasurer. Rios is currently leading Empowerment 2020, a movement that focuses on the recognition of historic American women and provides a collective voice advocating for women in senior leadership positions. Journalist Nick Haines was the emcee.
The event was organized by the League of Women Voters of Johnson County, who are gearing up to host upcoming events in April and May. Those include Meet & Greet/fundraisers for Kansas Rep. Sharice Davids and Barbara Bollier, Kansas candidate for the U.S. Senate.
The league also encourages everyone to make sure they are registered to vote at www.ksvotes.org, and to make your voice heard to your legislatures by sending them an email. To look up your legislatures, go to www.ksleglookup.org.

League of Women Voters celebra el centenario del sufragio femenino

El 29 de febrero, la Liga de Mujeres Votantes celebró el centenario del derecho al voto de las mujeres y la fundación de la liga en el Yardley Hall del Johnson County Community College.
Los asistentes escucharon los comentarios de la oradora principal Rosie Rios, ex tesorera de los Estados Unidos. Rios actualmente lidera Empowerment 2020, un movimiento que se enfoca en el reconocimiento de las mujeres históricas estadounidenses y proporciona una voz colectiva que aboga por las mujeres en puestos de liderazgo de alto nivel. El periodista Nick Haines fue el maestro de ceremonias.
El evento fue organizado por la Liga de Mujeres Votantes del Condado de Johnson, quienes se están preparando para organizar los próximos eventos en abril y mayo.
