Guadalupe Centers Inc. (GCI) has announced one of its fundraising events will be online this year.
The Blanco y Negro Awards Gala will go virtual for its 2020 edition. To be hosted on Oct. 30, the event will include speakers, a silent auction and entertainment. This year, it also will pay a special tribute to Day of the Dead.
The Blanco y Negro Gala is GCI’s black tie event. Generally, it kicks off the Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15-Oct. 15) festivities in the Kansas City area. However, this year, because of the pandemic, the virtual event will take place after Hispanic Heritage Month.
The gala provides GCI and its supporters an opportunity to honor outstanding individuals and institutions that have contributed to the growth and development of both GCI and the local Latino community.
Other special events, including the Cinco de Mayo Fiesta and Scholarship Golf Tournament, were cancelled because of the pandemic before GCI managed to turn Blanco y Negro into an online event.
“These events are an important part of our fundraising efforts and help keep our programs and services going,” GCI said in a press release.
GCI announced more details about the gala would be forthcoming.

Gala Blanco y Negro 2020 se vuelve virtual
Guadalupe Centers Inc. (GCI) anunció que uno de sus eventos de recaudación de fondos será en línea este año.
La Gala de Premios Blanco y Negro será virtual para su edición 2020. El evento, que se celebrará el 30 de octubre, incluirá oradores, una subasta silenciosa y entretenimiento. Este año, también rendirá un homenaje especial al Día de Muertos.
La Gala Blanco y Negro es el evento de gala de GCI. Generalmente, comienza las festividades del Mes de la Herencia Hispana (15 de septiembre al 15 de octubre) en el área de Kansas City. Sin embargo, este año, debido a la pandemia, el evento virtual se llevará a cabo después del Mes de la Herencia Hispana.
La gala le da a GCI y sus seguidores la oportunidad de honrar a personas e instituciones destacadas que han contribuido al crecimiento y desarrollo tanto de GCI como de la comunidad latina local.
Otros eventos especiales, incluida la Fiesta del Cinco de Mayo y el Torneo de golf con becas, fueron cancelados debido a la pandemia antes de que GCI lograra convertir Blanco y Negro en un evento en línea.
“Estos eventos son una parte importante de nuestros esfuerzos de recaudación de fondos y ayudan a que nuestros programas y servicios sigan funcionando”, dijo GCI en un comunicado de prensa.
