Dos Mundos cumple 35 años de existencia – y ha llegado muy lejos durante estos 35 años.
En 1981, cuando Clara y Manuel Reyes iniciaron el periódico, no sabían del impacto que tendría Dos Mundos. El primer periódico bilingüe orientado a los hispanos en el área de Kansas City creó una conexión no solamente con los residentes del área, sino con personas en lugares tan lejanos como Washington, D.C. Además, el periódico no solamente le ha permitido a la comunidad hispana mantenerse actualizada con las noticias más recientes, sino que también ha ayudado a luchar por los derechos de los latinos. También le ha abierto las puertas a otros medios de comunicación hispanos.
Convertir a Dos Mundos en una voz importante para los latinos del área no ha sido fácil para la familia Reyes. Desde el inicio, Clara y Manuel han luchado para hacer que la gente crea en su visión de Dos Mundos como una voz para los hispanos. Empezando desde cero, ellos han ayudado a combatir los estereotipos para ganar el apoyo del público, y ellos han tenido que resistir la competencia de muchos medios de comunicación para mantener ese apoyo.
Clara y Manuel han continuado con Dos Mundos debido a su creencia en el trabajo arduo -una creencia que es compartida por el resto de su equipo. En Dos Mundos, la meta es darles a los lectores un mejor periódico del que leyeron la semana anterior. La clave para lograr esa meta es el arduo trabajo de los editores, reporteros, diseñadores y otros miembros del personal.

Dos Mundos is 35 years old – and it’s come a long way during those 35 years.
In 1981, when Clara and Manuel Reyes started the newspaper, they didn’t realize the impact Dos Mundos would have. The Kansas City area’s first bilingual Hispanic-oriented newspaper has created a connection not only with area residents, but with people in places as far away as Washington, D.C. Moreover, the newspaper has not only allowed the Hispanic community to keep up to date with the latest news, but it also has helped fight for Latinos’ rights. It also has opened doors for other Hispanic media in the area.
Turning Dos Mundos into a major voice for area Latinos hasn’t been easy for the Reyes family. Since the beginning, Clara and Manuel have struggled to make people believe in their vision of Dos Mundos as a voice for Hispanics. Starting from nothing, they’ve had to fight stereotypes to gain the public’s support. And they’ve had to withstand competition from many media outlets to maintain that support.
Clara and Manuel have kept Dos Mundos going because of their belief in hard work – a belief that’s shared by the rest of the Dos Mundos team. At Dos Mundos, the goal is to give readers a better newspaper than the one they read the previous week. The key to achieving that goal is the hard work by Dos Mundos’ editors, reporters, designers and other staff members.
