Nepal batallando tras el terremoto
Nepal todavía está luchando para recuperarse del terremoto que experimentó el 25 de abril.

La oficina de la O.N.U. para la Coordinación de Asuntos Humanitarios informó recientemente que el terremoto había destruido más de 160,786 casas y dañado otras 143,642, con una predicción de que el total de viviendas destruidas eventualmente llegue a 500,000.
Monumentos nacionales también fueron destruidos, incluyendo la torre Dharahara. La mayor parte de los daños han sido reportados en Katmandú, la capital nepalesa; sin embargo, las comunidades rurales también se han visto afectadas severamente.
“Hay escasez de alimentos, agua y energía”, informó Simón Baldersone, Director de la Fundación Australiana de Himalaya, según fue citado por ABC News. “Los (sistemas de) comunicaciones están caídos. Así que por ahora, necesitamos ayuda de emergencia directa”.
“Hay una gran cantidad de ayuda que entra en Katmandú – y obviamente, con la población allí, eso es muy importante”, agregó. “Pero igualmente importantes es que no olvidemos que este terremoto ha tenido un efecto generalizado y devastador …. Nepal in recovery
Nepal is still struggling to recover from the April 25 earthquake it experienced while recent aftershocks continue to rattle residents.
As of this writing, the death toll had exceeded 7,000, including some Americans. The U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs reported recently that the earthquake had destroyed more than 160,786 houses and damaged 143,642 others, with a prediction that the total of destroyed houses would eventually reach 500,000.
National landmarks also were destroyed, including the Dharahara Tower. Most of the damage reported has been in Kathmandu, the Nepalese capital; however, rural communities have been affected severely, too.
“There are shortages of food, water, power,” Simon Baldersone, director of the Australian Himalayan Foundation, was quoted by ABC News as saying. “Communications … (systems are) down. So right now, we need direct emergency relief.”
“There’s a lot of aid coming into Kathmandu – and obviously with the population there, that’s very important,” Baldersone added. “But equally important is that we do not forget that this earthquake has had widespread effect and devastation…. So there will be a lot of people needing help … (in) the coming months and years.”
