El martes 22 de septiembre el papa Francisco comenzó su visita en Estados Unidos después de haber visitado Cuba.
El presidente Barack Obama y su esposa lo recibieron en el aeropuerto militar Andrews quienes después se fueron a una ceremonia de bienvenida en la Casa Blanca. Francisco se introdujo como un “hijo de una familia inmigrante” indicando al conflicto que ocurre con los inmigrantes en Estados Unidos.
Según fuentes, el Pontífice quiere enfatizar en temas como las relaciones de Estados Unidos y Cuba, temas de inmigración, matrimonio, y cambios climáticos.
“Ahora tienen esta larga ola de inmigración latina en muchas de sus diócesis,” dijo el Papa. “Tal vez no sea fácil para ustedes leer su alma; quizás sean sometidos a la prueba por su diversidad. En todo caso, sepan que también tienen recursos que compartir. Por tanto, acójanlos sin miedo.”
El Papa visitará tres ciudades durante su estadía de seis días. Su tour comienza en Washington DC – quien ya ha estado tres veces. También visitará Nueva York y Filadelfia.
Según su itinerario, el Papa atenderá el 70 aniversario de las Naciones Unidas mientras visita Nueva York.
Francisco espera también conocer los senadores y representantes y dar por lo menos 15 discursos, los cuales uno de ellos será en inglés; el resto en español: su lengua nativa.
Miles de personas esperan al Papa en las dos ciudades que faltan así como lo esperaron en Washington DC donde atendieron más de 10 mil personas para darle la bienvenida.
Los viajes a Washington, Nueva York y Filadelfia han aumentado entre un 20 a 25%.
Pope begins U.S. visit

On Tuesday (Sept. 22), Pope Francis started his visit of the United States after visiting Cuba for three days.
President Barack Obama and his wife welcomed the Pope at Joint Base Andrews then had a welcome ceremony at the White House. Pope Francis introduced himself as the “son of an immigrant family” indicating the current disagreement regarding immigrants in the United States.
According to sources, the Pope wants to emphasize on topics such as U.S-Cuba relationship, immigration, marriage, and climate change.
“Now you have this long wave of Latino immigration in many diocese,” He said. “It may not be easy for you to read their soul; they may be subjected to the test by their diversity. In any case, they know that you also have to share resources. Therefore, receive them without fear.”
The pope will visit three cities during his six-day visit. His tour starts in Washington, D.C. He’ll also visit New York City and Philadelphia.
According to his itinerary, the pope will attend the 70th anniversary celebration of the United Nations while in New York City.
Pope Francis is expected to meet U.S. senators and representatives. He will give 15 speeches – one of them in English, the others in Spanish, his native language.
Hundreds of thousands of people are expected to welcome the Pope in the two remaining cities as it occurred in Washington DC where over 10 thousand people gather to welcome him.
Travel to Washington, New York City and Philadelphia is expected to increase between 20 and 25 percent.
