El elefante más grande pegó un faltazo

Elefante

“Ted, no me hagas ilusionar” pensé.

GOP’s biggest elephant a no-show at latest debate

Commentary by Dermidio Juez-Perez
Donald Trump – the man who claims he can defeat ISIS, Russia, China and North Korea – can’t confront Fox TV personality Megyn Kelly.
The business mogul and presidential candidate didn’t show up for the seventh Republican presidential debate, held on Jan. 28 in Des Moines, Iowa. Every candidate had something to say about Trump’s absence. Ted Cruz joked: “I am a maniac – and everyone on this stage is stupid, fat and ugly. Ben, you are a terrible surgeon. Now that we’ve gotten the Donald Trump portion out of the way…”
Fortunately, for most of the night, the controversial candidate was ignored and his presence wasn’t missed.
But enough about Trump. Thanks to his absence, candidates such as Rand Paul and Jeb Bush could present their ideas.
Paul had as excellent night. He had an opportunity to showcase his ideas and projects while successfully attacking Cruz, his major competition. Bush’s night was a great one, too. He showed the kind of passion his followers needed to see. Yet it was probably too late for either candidate to make a difference in the polls.
With Cruz taking center stage, it’s not surprising that he was the recipient of every attack and insult. He was even called a few names. His night was a bad one, not only because of the other candidates’ attacks, but also because of what he did.
He pulled a Donald.
All night long, Cruz complained about the rules and questions. At one point, he went so far as to threaten to walk offstage.
“Ted, don’t get my hopes up,” I thought.
Still, Cruz fared better than the night’s biggest loser: Donald Trump. This debate was proof that Trump is unqualified to be the president of the United States. Trump thought he wouldn’t participate because he dislikes Megyn Kelly and figured she would pose challenging questions. Mr. Trump, as president of the greatest nation on Earth, when times get hard, you prepare yourself for them and don’t quit. That means making yourself ready to confront those who wish to challenge you, whether that’s North Korea or Megyn Kelly.
