Chiefs get rematch with Steelers in AFC playoffs

The Kansas City Chiefs will get another crack at the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Kansas City will face Pittsburgh in AFC playoff action at 12:05 p.m. this Sunday (Jan. 15) at Arrowhead Stadium. The Chiefs (12-4) fell to the Steelers 43-14 in Week 4.
“They got after us pretty good,” Chiefs coach Andy Reid said during the opening remarks of his press conference on Monday (Jan. 9) at the team’s training facility.
A sampling of football prognosticators and sports betting systems show the Chiefs are favored to avenge that regular-season loss. As of Monday night, OddsShark.com had the Chiefs as a two-point favorite (to check out the latest line, visit http://www.oddsshark.com/nfl). In a column on Monday for BleacherReport.com, sportswriter Paul Kasabian predicted a three-point Kansas City victory. And in a Jan. 7 post at www.si.com featuring the predictions of all 11 NFL playoff games by a 12-member panel, eight panelists picked the Chiefs to play and defeat the Steelers in the second round of the AFC bracket.
Reid, however, said he isn’t “much on the predictions and that stuff – or the comparisons.”
“They’re probably a little different,” Reid stated. “We’re probably a little different…. We’ll just see. We’ll go out and we’ll play them and see how we do.”
Should the Chiefs avenge their regular-season loss to Pittsburgh, they’ll face the New England-Houston winner for the AFC championship on Jan. 22. If top-seeded New England wins, then Kansas City will play at Gillette Stadium. If fourth-seeded Houston wins, however, then second-seeded Kansas City will host the conference championship game.
A win on Sunday would put the Chiefs in the AFC final for the first time since 1994, when they lost on the road to Buffalo. Coincidentally, the first team they faced during that playoff run was Pittsburgh. On Jan. 8, 1994, they edged the Steelers 27-24 in overtime at Arrowhead. They then defeated the Houston Oilers (now the Tennessee Titans) 28-20 eight days later in the Houston Astrodome.
Pittsburgh’s 30-12 victory over Miami on Sunday (Jan. 8) at Heinz Field set up the Steelers’ latest postseason showdown with the Chiefs, who had a first-round bye. The Steelers (12-5) performed well against the Dolphins, Reid said.
“We look forward to the challenge of playing Pittsburgh,” he said. “We know they’re a good football team.”
