In this edition we will talk about the capital of the autonomous community of Catalonia, which is also the city that hosts one of the most famous soccer teams on the planet, clearly, we are talking about Barcelona, Spain. The history of the city extends over more than 4,000 years, from the Neolithic era. Its population is just over 1.6 million citizens, while its metropolitan area has more than 5 million citizens, making it the sixth largest population in the entire European Union.
Barcelona is the perfect combination of city and beach, this is because the city is located right on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea, so it has a lot of beautiful beaches. But also the whole city is surrounded by an architecture exquisite and a very cosmopolitan and international atmosphere.
Looking round flights in advance from Kansas to Barcelona can be found at just under $1,000. As far as transportation is concerned the best option is the subway, it has 8 lines throughout the city and you can buy a card for unlimited use from 2 days at $18 and up to 5 days for $45. They also offer a large fleet of buses for about $3 the trip. The accommodation in a 3-star hotel has an average price of $120 per night and a hostel for about $65 per night, the price will go up closer to the beach that you are. If we talk about food, Barcelona is a place that stands out! Its rich Catalan cuisine distinguishes it, and if you are vegetarian or vegan here you will find one of the cities with more variety of dishes of this lifestyle. I advise you to try the escalades, that are barbecued peppers, eggplant, onions and potatoes with oil, pepper, and salt, and as dessert a Catalan cream, a recipe of almost 300 years old that is prepared with egg yolks, sugar, wheat flour, milk with cinnamon and lemon peel. A full meal in a restaurant for about $30.
I describe below some of the points of greatest interest when visiting Barcelona:
The Expiatory Temple of the Sagrada Familia is undoubtedly the most known and characteristic monument of all Barcelona. This curious temple is built on donations, that is why despite that its construction started in 1882 is not yet completely finished. Its design was made by the renowned architect Antoni Gaudí, maximum exponent of the Catalan modernist architecture. Undoubtedly one of the most beautiful Catholic temples on the planet.
La Barceloneta is undoubtedly one of the most charismatic and popular neighborhoods in Barcelona. This neighborhood has a triangular shape and limits to the Olympic Port, the Ronda Litoral, and the sea, thus having the beaches of Barceloneta, Somorrostro, Sant Sebastia and Sant Miquel. The most beautiful part of this place is it beaches, which in addition to being large are very busy and have a great atmosphere with excellent services. Right here you can enjoy the Museum of History of Catalonia and the Clock Tower, which is the oldest building in this area and was built in 1772, functioning as a port lighthouse. You can get auctions of fresh fish, freshly brought by the fishing boats.
The Tibidabo Park, the highest peak in the city, has 512 meters in height and makes it one of the best viewpoints in the city. Here you can also find the Tibidabo Amusement Park that was opened in 1899 and is the most ancient of all Spain. Here you will also find the majestic temple of the Sacred Heart, a monumental neo-Gothic building with a gleaming bronze statue of the Sacred Heart. It has an elevator that allows you to climb to the top of the temple and appreciate the privileged views of the city.
Montjüic is an excellent vantage point to contemplate the city and that is also surrounded by a lot of tourist attractions. Basically, it is the only elevation of the city besides the Tibidabo. In its surroundings you can find the Montjüic Castle, which is an old military fort; the National Museum of Art of Catalonia that has a vast collection of art of all kinds and a long historical period; the botanical garden that has more than 2,000 plant species and many other sites.
El Pueblo Español, this interesting place was built in 1929 and it is an authentic town of 49 thousand square meters and that reproduces 117 buildings, streets, and squares throughout Spain. It was planned to destroy it after the exhibition for which it was created, but due to its great beauty and attraction of the Spanish people after more than 80 years it continues to captivate everyone who visits it. It is also located in the surroundings of Montjüic.

Conoce Barcelona
Bienvenidos turistas, en esta edición nos toca hablar de la capital de la comunidad autónoma de Cataluña, que además es la ciudad que alberga a uno de los equipos de fútbol soccer más famosos del planeta, claramente nos referimos a Barcelona, España. La historia de la ciudad se extiende a lo largo de más de 4,000 años, desde la época del Neolítico. Su población es de poco más de 1.6 millones de habitantes, mientras que su área metropolitana cuenta con poco más de 5 millones de habitantes, haciendo de esta la sexta mayor población de toda la Unión Europea.
Barcelona es la combinación perfecta entre ciudad y playa, esto se debe a que la ciudad se encuentra situada justo en las orillas del mar mediterráneo, por lo que tiene una basta cantidad de hermosas playas, pero además toda la ciudad se encuentra rodeada de una arquitectura exquisita y un ambiente muy cosmopolita e internacional.
Los vuelos redondos de Kansas a Barcelona comprandolos con anticipación podrás encontrarlos en poco menos de $1,000. Ahora bien si hablamos de comida, Barcelona es un lugar para destacar, su rica gastronomía catalana lo distingue, además de que si eres vegetariano o vegano aquí encontrarás una de las ciudades con más variedad de platillos de este estilo de vida, te recomiendo que pruebes las escalivadas, son pimientos, berenjenas, cebollas y papas con aceite, pimienta y sal, y se asan a la barbacoa y como postre una crema catalana, una receta de casi 300 años de antigüedad y que se prepara con yemas de huevo, azúcar, harina de trigo, leche con canela y cáscara de limón; una comida completa en un restaurante por unos $30.
Algunos de los puntos de mayor interés al visitar Barcelona los describo a continuación:
Templo Expiatorio de la Sagrada Familia, es sin duda el monumento más conocido y característico de todo Barcelona. Este curioso templo al ser un expiatorio es construido en base a donaciones, es por eso que a pesar de haber comenzado su construcción en 1882 aún no está del todo terminado, su diseño está hecho a manos del reconocido arquitecto Antoni Gaudí, máximo exponente de la arquitectura modernista catalana. Sin duda alguna uno de los templos católicos más hermosos del planeta.
La Barceloneta, es sin duda uno de los barrios más carismáticos y populares de todo Barcelona. Este barrio tiene forma triangular y limita al Puerto Olímpico, la Ronda Litoral y el mar, teniendo así las playas de Barceloneta, Somorrostro, Sant Sebastia y Sant Miquel. Lo más bello de este lugar es sin duda sus playas, las cuales además de ser grandes son muy concurridas y cuentan con un gran ambiente y cuentan con excelentes servicios. Aquí mismo podrás disfrutar del Museo de Historia de Cataluña y de la Torre del Reloj, la cual es la construcción más antigua de esta zona y fue edificada en 1772 funcionando así como faro del puerto. Podrás conseguir subastas de pescado fresco, recién traído en los barcos pesqueros.
El Parque Tibidabo, es la cima más alta de la ciudad, cuenta con 512 metros de altura y lo hace uno de los mejores miradores de la ciudad, además aquí podrás encontrar el Parque de Atracciones de Tibidabo que fue inaugurado en 1899 y es el más antiguo de todo España, aún siguen en funcionamiento algunas de esas atracciones antiguas. Aquí también se encuentra el majestuoso templo del Sagrado Corazón, un edificio monumental de estilo neogótico y que cuenta con una reluciente estatua de bronce del Sagrado Corazón. Cuenta con un ascensor que permite subir hasta la parte superior del templo y así poder apreciar de las privilegiadas vistas de la ciudad.
Montjüic, es un excelente mirador para contemplar la ciudad y que además está rodeado de una gran cantidad de lugares de interés turístico. Básicamente es la única elevación de la ciudad además del Tibidabo. En sus alrededores podrás encontrar el Castillo Montjüic, el cual es un antiguo fuerte militar, el Museo Nacional de Arte de Cataluña que cuenta con una basta colección de arte de todo tipo y de un amplio periodo histórico, el jardín botánico que tiene más de 2,000 especies de plantas y muchos otros sitios.
El Pueblo Español, este interesante lugar fue construido en 1929 y se trata de un auténtico pueblo de 49 mil metros cuadrados y que reproduce 117 edificios, calles y plazas de todo España. Se tenía planeado destruirlo luego de la exposición para la cual fue creado, pero debido a su gran belleza y atracción del pueblo español luego de más de 80 años sigue cautivando a todo aquél que lo visita. También se encuentra en los alrededores del Montjüic.
Así como en todo Europa la moneda oficial es el Euro, como existen muchos lugares muy tradicionales te recomiendo que cambies algunos dólares a Euros para poder tener acceso a comprar en cualquier sitio ya que no en todos lados aceptan tarjeta.
