What New Year’s Eve means depends on who you ask about it.
Recently, Dos Mundos asked some people what the Dec. 31 celebration means to them. Here are their answers:
“It’s a time to celebrate and get together with the people that you love. It’s a time for a change and new beginnings. I always see it as an opportunity to make resolutions and try to stick to … (them). In general, for me, it means a new chance to have a great year.”

“It’s about drinking and partying with everyone around us. For me, it’s about happiness and receiving new beginnings with the best attitude. I see it as a chance to celebrate a new chance to live. On this day, I’m thankful for having all the people I love with me, reminiscing about the past and looking forward to a better future.”
— Angeles Baez —
“For me, it’s a new beginning. Leaving all the mistakes, unmade decisions and regrets behind. You get a new opportunity to make new decisions, don’t have regrets, make up for your mistakes and try new stuff. I think that as a new year comes by, you need to work on making it better than the last one. I want to be a better friend, work on my projects and be happy with myself.”

“For me, the New Year’s (Eve) celebration … (is) an opportunity to look back to everything that happened … (during) the year, the bad and good stuff. It’s also a chance to think about what will come in the following year and all the improvement I have to do on myself. It’s a moment for introspection that can become an intimate … activity.”

“For me, a new year means improvement. It’s (about) starting over, leaving behind whatever … harmed you physically and mentally, always getting better from your mistakes. It’s a new beginning to try new things, being brave and … (pursuing) your dreams. It’s about always going forward and never behind. It’s about pursuing your resolutions and be aware that you can truly achieve them.”

Conversaciones de la calle: ¿Cuál es el significado de la víspera de Año Nuevo?
El significado de la víspera de Año Nuevo depende de a quién le preguntes.
Recientemente, Dos Mundos les preguntó a algunas personas qué significa para ellos la celebración del 31 de diciembre. Aquí están sus respuestas:
“Es un momento para celebrar y reunirse con las personas que amas. Es un momento para cambios y nuevos comienzos. Siempre lo veo como una oportunidad para hacer resoluciones y tratar de cumplirlas. En general, para mí, significa una nueva oportunidad de tener un gran año”.

“Se trata de beber y divertirse con todos los que nos rodean. Para mí, se trata de felicidad y de recibir nuevos comienzos con la mejor actitud. Lo veo como una oportunidad para celebrar una nueva oportunidad de vivir. En este día, estoy agradecida por tener a todas las personas que amo conmigo, recordando el pasado y esperando un mejor futuro”.

“Para mí, es un nuevo comienzo. Dejando atrás todos los errores, las decisiones que no tomaste y los arrepentimientos. Obtienes una nueva oportunidad para tomar nuevas decisiones, no tener arrepentimientos, solucionar tus errores y probar cosas nuevas. Creo que a medida que se acerca un nuevo año, es necesario trabajar para hacerlo mejor que el anterior. Quiero ser un mejor amigo, trabajar en mis proyectos y ser feliz conmigo mismo”.

“Para mí, la celebración de Año Nuevo es una oportunidad para recordar todo lo que sucedió durante el año, lo malo y lo bueno. También es una oportunidad para pensar en lo que vendrá el año próximo y toda la mejora que tengo que hacer por mí misma. Es un momento para la introspección que puede convertirse en una actividad íntima”.

“Para mí, un año nuevo significa una mejora. Se trata de comenzar de nuevo, dejar atrás lo que sea … lo que te lastimó física y mentalmente, siempre mejorando sus errores. Es un nuevo comienzo probar cosas nuevas, ser valiente y perseguir tus sueños. Se trata de ir siempre hacia adelante y nunca atrás. Se trata de perseguir tus resoluciones y ser conscientes de que realmente puede lograrlas”.
