Welcome tourists! In this edition, we will talk about Morelia, Mexico, a city with a lot of history for our neighboring country Mexico. It’s surrounded by beautiful buildings made of the peculiar stone called pink quarry and it is the most visited tourist destination without beach from all over the country. Founded in 1541 by orders of the Viceroy of New Spain Antonio de Mendoza y Pacheco, it has about 800 thousand residents and a metropolitan area that reaches almost one million.
From 1545 to 1828 it took the name of Valladolid in honor of the homonymous city of Spain and changed its name to Morelia in honor of José María Morelos, the hero of the Independence War of Mexico. Every year the Morelia International Film Festival is held here, which opens its doors to the seventh art to directors, actors, filmmakers, and moviegoers from Mexico and around the world. They gather to watch competing films and other festival-winning films from international events such as Cannes and Venice.
Round trips from Kansas to Morelia has an average price of $570 and have at least one layover. The easiest way to get around the city is by car, so it is important to consider renting one. You can also move in Uber in an economical and safe way. The average price of accommodation at a 3-star hotel is $35 per night, while $130 per night in a 5-star hotel. The cuisine of Morelia and the entire state of Michoacan is one of the most famous and loved in the whole country. Try the Morelian enchiladas, they are a type of taco with tortillas dipped in a spicy sauce and filled with chicken and vegetables. The corundas are a kind of triangular tamale, accompanied with cream, cheese, and rajas. As a dessert, you should try the morelianos and chongos zamoranos (from a nearby town). The Downtown was called a World Heritage Site by UNESCO since 1991. Although few know it, the Historic Downtown of Morelia has the largest number of architectural monuments in the country, surpassing Mexico City and Guadalajara. It has 15 seats, 1,133 monuments, 219 blocks. A city that will take you time to explore and enjoy. It has more than 200 historic buildings built with that famous pink stone. Many people call Morelia the “City of the Pink Quarry”, where the baroque style prevails.
Cathedral is one of the many historical buildings made in baroque style in pink quarry and dating from the eighteenth century. Inside you can find the monumental organ of 4,600 flutes, the largest in the country, as well as a large number of paintings and images and a silver baptismal font.
The Old Aqueduct was built in the 18th century to supply the entire city with water. It’s undoubtedly one of the most important and conserved civil works in the city, with 253 arches over 9 meters high, that was used until 1910.
Morelos Museum, besides being a museum, is also the birthplace of the famous Mexican patriot José María Morelos y Pavón. It was originally built in a Baroque style in the 17th century and rebuilt in 1888 adopting a neoclassical style. Here you can learn some of the most important episodes of his career and documents with his signature.
Mexico by tradition is a country of a great variety of typical candies, so you should not miss the opportunity to visit the Candy Museum. You can taste more than 300 sweets, many of them traditional from this region and the rest of the country. You can also see how some of them are made, and how they were made a few centuries ago. Benito Juarez Zoo is one of the largest in Latin America, both in species diversity and number of copies. Here the birth of some animals outside of their ordinary time of reproduction has been achieved, for which reason it also makes it quite special. The price range is between $1.5 and $5.

Bienvenidos turistas, en esta edición nos toca hablar de una ciudad con mucha historia de nuestro país vecino México, la cual está rodeada de bellas edificaciones hechas de la peculiar piedra llamada cantera rosa y que aunque no lo parezca es el destino turístico sin playa más visitado de todo el país, nos referimos a Morelia, México. Fundada en 1541 por órdenes del virrey de Nueva España Antonio de Mendoza y Pacheco, cuenta con cerca de 800 mil habitantes y un área metropolitana que alcanza casi el millón de habitantes.
De 1545 a 1828 llevó el nombre de Valladolid en honor a la ciudad homónima de España, y cambió su nombre a Morelia en honor a José María Morelos, héroe de la Guerra de Independencia de México. Aquí se lleva a cabo cada año el Festival Internacional de Cine de Morelia, el cual abre sus puertas al séptimo arte a directores, actores, cineastas, y cinéfilos de México y de todo el mundo, para ver películas en competencia y otras premiadas por festivales internacionales como Cannes y Venecia.
Los vuelos redondos de Kansas a Morelia tienen un costo promedio de $570 y cuentan con al menos una escala. Centro Histórico, es sin duda un maravilloso lugar para salir a conocer, Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la UNESCO desde 1991. Aunque pocos lo saben el Centro Histórico de Morelia cuenta con la mayor cantidad de monumentos arquitectónicos en el país, superando a Ciudad de México y Guadalajara. Cuenta con 15 plazas, 1,133 monumentos, 219 manzanas, sin duda una ciudad que te llevará tiempo recorrerla y disfrutarla. Sus más de 200 edificios históricos están construidos con esa famosa piedra rosa, por lo que muchos le suelen llamar la “Ciudad de la Cantera Rosa”, en donde el estilo barroco es el que predomina.
Catedral, uno de los tantos edificios históricos que están elaborados al estilo barroco en cantera rosa y que data del siglo XVIII, dentro podrás encontrar el órgano monumental de 4,600 flautas, el más grande del país, además de gran cantidad de pinturas e imágenes y una pila bautismal de plata.
Viejo Acueducto, levantado en el siglo XVIII para surtir de agua a toda la ciudad es sin duda una de las obras civiles más importantes y conservadas de la ciudad, con 253 arcos con más de 9 metros de altura, el cual prestó sus servicios hasta 1910.
Museo de Morelos, además de ser un museo es la casa natal del famoso patriota mexicano José María Morelos y Pavón, que originalmente fue construida de estilo barroco en el siglo XVII y reconstruida en en 1888 adoptando un estilo neoclásico, aquí podrás conocer algunos de los episodios más importantes de su trayectoria y documentos con su firma.
Museo del dulce, México por tradición es un país de gran variedad de dulces típicos, por lo que no deberás perder la oportunidad de probar sus más de 300 dulces, muchos de ellos tradicionales de esta región y los demás de todo el país, además dentro del museo podrás ver cómo es que se elaboran algunos de ellos, y cómo es que se elaboraban hace unos siglos atrás. Zoológico Benito Juárez, es uno de los más grandes de todo Latinoamérica tanto en diversidad de especies así como de cantidad de ejemplares. Aquí se ha logrado el nacimiento de algunos animales fuera de su tiempo ordinario de reproducción, por lo cual también lo hace bastante especial. El costo de entrada es de $1.5 el paquete más económico y de $5 el más caro.
