KC STEM Fest coming to Union Station March 1
KC STEM Fest is around the corner.
The fifth staging of the annual event is scheduled for 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday (March 1) at Union Station’s Grand Plaza. Open to individuals of all ages, the admission-free event will include demonstrations and exhibits to immerse attendees in the worlds of science, technology, engineering and math.
“(This) celebration is designed to ignite curiosity and foster enthusiasm for STEM careers and the future,” the official press release stated. “With a significant demand for a skilled STEM workforce, particularly in Kansas City, one of the nation’s leading hubs for engineering, manufacturing and technology, cultivating highly proficient graduates is imperative to meet industry needs.”
KC STEM Fest originated in 2016 at a school-only festival at Frontier Schools Charter School. In 2017, Frontier Schools expanded it to the Greater Kansas City area in the first KC STEM Fest. Because of the pandemic, the event was paused for a few years, returning in 2023.
For Cetir Demir, Frontier Schools assistant superintendent, this fifth event signifies the school’s commitment to STEM and Kansas City.
“This initiative not only underscores Frontier’s dedication to advancing education and professional development, but also serves as a catalyst for inspiring the next generation of innovators and problem-solvers,” Demir stated via email. “By providing a platform for networking, learning and skill-building, this event contributes to the cultivation of a diverse and talented workforce essential for driving innovation and economic growth in KC.”
This year, the event will include more than 350 exhibitors from Frontier Schools – spanning elementary through high school students, alongside partners and sponsors – presenting interactive and educational demonstrations.
Projects featured will include VEX IQ Field, Crime Scene Investigation, Bird Beak Adaptations, Balloon Cars, Magnetic Slime, Magic Math Game, Soccer Bot, Assassin TeaPot Science Olympiad Tower, Bird Projects and 3D Printing.
