Martinez brings joy, pinatas to area parties
Greater Kansas City area resident Eloissa Martinez has turned her passion for handcrafts and culture into creations aimed at enlivening parties.
Martinez has done so by launching a pinata (piñata in Spanish) business, Pinatas Dulce Explosion. She started the business earlier this year to balance creative work while staying present for her family, she said.
“I’ve always loved making things with my hands,” Martinez said. “Starting Pinatas Dulce Explosion gave me the chance to share that love with others and to do something meaningful while caring for my baby.”
Martinez’s pinatas range from classic characters like Stitch of the Lilo & Stitch multimedia franchise to large decorative numbers and 3D figures. The pinatas are customized to each client’s celebration.
“Each one is made with love, and that’s what makes them explode – with joy,” she said.
The most complex piece Martinez said she has completed is a 3D version of Boo, the child character from the movie “Monsters Inc.”
“That one was tough,” she recalled. “It had so many small details and had to look as close as possible to the client’s reference. But when I finished it, I was so proud of the result.”
Each pinata typically takes three to five days to complete, depending on the design, Martinez said.
“Designing a pinata isn’t just about gluing paper,” she said. “It’s about creating something that brings joy and becomes part of someone’s special day.”
Clients are encouraged to place orders at least two weeks in advance. Prices for the pinatas range from $45 to $85, but the cost might increase for larger or more complex projects.
Customers can place orders through Martinez’s Facebook page, Pinatas Dulce Explosion; or by contacting her directly via WhatsApp at (913) 290-4800. She offers delivery of some orders to some parts of Kansas City for an additional fee. Customers also can pick up their pinatas at her home, she said.
For Martinez, seeing the reactions of her customers brings joy to what she does.
“I love getting messages and photos of kids smiling with their pinata,” she said. “When someone tells me it made their child’s party extra special, that’s the best part.”
Martinez, who studied graphic design and took craft courses while growing up in Nicaragua, also finds joy in keeping cultural traditions alive through her business.
“Pinatas are a big part of our celebrations and our identity,” she said. “Being able to share that with families here in Kansas City means everything to me.”
Martinez is grateful to her family for encouraging her to keep going with her new business.
“This wouldn’t be possible without them, and of course, without my baby because he’s the reason this whole journey began,” she said.
Piñatas Dulce Explosión trae alegría a las fiestas de la zona
Eloissa Martínez, residente del área metropolitana de Kansas City, ha convertido su pasión por las artesanías y la cultura en creaciones diseñadas para animar las fiestas.
Martínez lo ha logrado al lanzar Piñatas Dulce Explosión, un negocio de piñatas. Comenzó el negocio a principios de este año para equilibrar su trabajo creativo y estar presente para su familia, comentó.

“Cada una está hecha con amor, y eso es lo que las hace rebosar de alegría”, dijo.
La pieza más compleja que Martínez comentó haber completado es una versión 3D de Boo, el personaje infantil de la película “Monsters Inc”.
“Esa fue difícil”, recordó. “Tenía muchísimos pequeños detalles y tenía que parecerse lo más posible a la referencia del cliente. Pero cuando la terminé, me sentí muy orgullosa del resultado”.
Cada piñata suele tardar entre tres y cinco días en completarse, dependiendo del diseño, dijo Martínez.
“Diseñar una piñata no se trata sólo de pegar papel”, dijo. “Se trata de crear algo que traiga alegría y forme parte del día especial de alguien”.
Se anima a los clientes a hacer sus pedidos con al menos dos semanas de anticipación. Los precios de las piñatas varían entre $45 y $85, pero el costo puede aumentar para proyectos más grandes o complejos.

Para Martínez, ver las reacciones de sus clientes le llena de alegría a su trabajo.
“Me encanta recibir mensajes y fotos de niños sonriendo con su piñata”, dijo. “Cuando alguien me dice que hizo que la fiesta de su hijo fuera aún más especial, esa es la mejor parte”.
Martínez, quien estudió diseño gráfico y tomó cursos de artesanía durante su infancia en Nicaragua, también encuentra alegría en mantener vivas las tradiciones culturales a través de su negocio.
“Las piñatas son una parte importante de nuestras celebraciones y nuestra identidad”, dijo. “Poder compartirlas con las familias aquí en Kansas City significa todo para mí”.
