La Fiesta Hispana celebra su 30 aniversario con una formación diversa de artistas populares, incluyendo el grupo local Mariachi El Andariego, ganador del Grammy Sunny Sauceda y cantante popular de música duranguense Diana Reyes.
Durante el 16 al 18 de septiembre, el evento se llevará a cabo en el Barney Allis Plaza, ubicado en 12 y central en Kansas City, Mo. Según David Tinoco, presidente del Comité del Patrimonio Hispano de Kansas City, entre 20.000 y 25.000 visitantes se anticipan. Los miembros del comité se esfuerzan para que sea una noche memorable.
“El sábado (17 Sept.) será enorme, con Diana Reyes”, dijo Tinoco. “Y no se puede pedir más para un hermoso telón de fondo, un hermoso lugar para mostrar nuestra cultura.”
El evento es público y gratuito y contará de diversas actividades. Además de los actos musicales, que contará con negocios locales hispanos, comida, bebidas y una zona de Pokémon.
“Vamos a tener una zona de Pokémon casi todo el fin de semana en el parque”, dijo Tinoco. “Y el objetivo es que otras personas que les gusta Pokémon visiten y estén intrigados por nuestra cultura y que les resulte interesante.”
Las ganancias de las ventas de bebidas serán aportados hacia la creación de becas para estudiantes de secundaria latinos locales que planean asistir a la universidad. Entre 500 y 700 estudiantes se han beneficiado de las ganancias de la venta de bebidas.
Según Tinoco, la única misión del Comité es crear eventos durante todo el año que muestre la cultura y ayude a la comunidad, que van desde ayudar a los estudiantes que necesitan becas de la universidad para ayudar a los proveedores hispanos que quieren impulsar su negocio.
“Eso es lo que querían nuestros fundadores – proporcionar una etapa en la que pudieran mostrar lo que somos”, dijo. “Y cada dólar del evento es devuelto a la comunidad. Eso es el punto de la fiesta. Me siento muy bendecido … (por) el hecho de que la gente está orgullosa de estar aquí …. Y eso dice mucho … (sobre) donde venimos – desde la pequeña fiesta que estaba en la esquina de la calle en el bulevar (Southwest Boulevard) “.

Fiesta Hispana to kick off on Sept. 16

Fiesta Hispana will celebrate its 30th year with a diverse lineup of popular artists, including local mariachi band Mariachi El Andariego, Grammy Award-winner Sunny Sauceda and popular duranguense music singer Diana Reyes.
Scheduled for Sept. 16-18, the event will take place at the Barney Allis Plaza, located at 12th and Central in Kansas City, Mo. According to David Tinoco, president of the Greater Kansas City Hispanic Heritage Committee, between 20,000 and 25,000 visitors are anticipated. Committee members are striving to make it a memorable night.
“Saturday (Sept. 17) will be huge with Diana Reyes,” Tinoco said. “And you couldn’t ask for a more beautiful backdrop, a beautiful place to showcase our culture.”
The free public event will consist of various activities. In addition to musical acts, it will feature local Hispanic vendors, food, beverages and a Pokémon lure.
“We’re going to have a Pokémon lure almost all weekend long at the park,” Tinoco said. “And the goal is to bring other people who like Pokémon to visit and be intrigued by our culture and find it interesting.”
Proceeds from beverage sales will be contributed toward creating scholarships for local Latino high school students who plan to attend college. Between 500 and 700 students have benefited from the beverage sale proceeds.
According to Tinoco, the Greater Kansas City Hispanic Heritage Committee’s sole mission is to create events year-round that showcase culture and give back to the community, ranging from helping students who need college scholarships to helping Hispanic vendors who want to boost their business.
“That’s what our founders wanted – to provide a stage where we can showcase who we are,” he said. “And every dollar from the event, we eventually give it back. That’s (the) key of the fiesta. I feel very blessed … (by) the fact that people are proud to be here…. And that speaks volumes … (about) where we’ve come from – the little fiesta that was on the street corner on the boulevard (Southwest Boulevard).”
