Guadalupe Centers Inc. (GCI) pronto realizará su gala anual Blanco y Negro – y como parte del evento, la organización celebrará su aniversario 95 sirviendo al área de Kansas City.
El evento de este año iniciará con un coctel a las 5:30 p.m., seguido por una cena a las 7 y un baile a las 9, el viernes, 12 de Sept., en el Westin Crown Center en Kansas City, Mo.
“La gala Blanco y Negro es un evento con invitación abierta para el público”, informó Cris Medina, CEO de GCI. “Tomamos reservaciones para confirmar el número de invitados para el hotel para la cena y el espacio. (Pero) damos la bienvenida a cualquiera que quiera participar o conocer más sobre … Guadalupe Centers Inc.”.
El dinero que se recaude con el evento se destinará al apoyo de los programas de GCI.
“La participación de la comunidad para Blanco y Negro es muy importante, ya que nuestros accionistas como una organización sin fines de lucro, son las personas a las que servimos y … tenerlos presentes en el evento refuerza su apoyo hacia nuestra agencia”, refirió Medina.
Durante el evento, GCI otorgará la beca Tony Aguirre a varios estudiantes para ayudarles a continuar con una educación preparatoria o post preparatoria privada. Los beneficiarios de este año incluyen a: Alexis Domínguez y Gabriela Tinoco, estudiantes de décimo grado de la preparatoria Bishop Ward; Emilio González, alumno de 12avo. grado de la preparatoria St. Pius X; Alexander Miguel López y Henry James Ramírez, estudiantes de noveno grado de la preparatoria Bishop Miege; Regina del Carmen Teresa Sánchez, quien cursa noveno grado en Bishop Ward; Laura Domínguez, alumna del segundo año en el Colegio Donnelly; Jorge Holguin, quien está en su último año en la Universidad Rockhurst; y Cinthia Ramos, quien estudia el segundo año en la Universidad Central Missouri.
Otros premios que serán presentados son: Dorothy Gallagher, Thomas E. Purcell, I. Pat Ríos y Negocio del Año. Carla Medina de GCI recibirá el Dorothy Gallagher por sus contribuciones a la organización. La Dra. Theresa Torres de la Universidad de Missouri-Kansas City recibirá el reconocimiento Thomas E. Purcell por sus contribuciones como miembro de la junta de GCI. Edgar F. Palacios de Central Exchange recibirá el premio I. Pat Ríos. International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers recibirá el honor de Negocio del Año.

GCI to hold annual Blanco y Negro Gala

Guadalupe Centers Inc. (GCI) will soon hold its annual Blanco y Negro Gala – and as part of the event, the organization will celebrate its 95th year of serving the Kansas City area.
This year’s event will begin with cocktails at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 and a dance at 9, on Friday (Sept. 12) at Westin Crown Center in Kansas City, Mo.
“The Blanco y Negro Gala is an open-invitation event for the public,” said Cris Medina, GCI CEO. “We take reservations to confirm the number of guests for the hotel for dinner and space. (But) we welcome anyone who would like to participate or learn more about … Guadalupe Centers Inc.”
The money raised from the event will go toward supporting GCI’s programs.
“The participation by the community for the Blanco y Negro is very important, since our shareholders as a not-for-profit are the people we serve and … having them in attendance for the event reinforces their support for our agency,” Medina said.
During the event, GCI will award the Tony Aguirre Scholarship to several students to help them pursue a private secondary or postsecondary education. This year’s recipients include Alexis Dominguez and Gabriela Tinoco, sophomores at Bishop Ward High School; Emilio Gonzalez, a senior at St. Pius X High School; Alexander Miguel Lopez and Henry James Ramirez, freshmen at Bishop Miege High School; Regina del Carmen Teresa Sanchez, a Bishop Ward freshman; Laura Dominguez, a sophomore at Donnelly College; Jorge Holguin, a senior at Rockhurst University; and Cinthia Ramos, a sophomore at the University of Central Missouri.
Other awards to be presented include the Dorothy Gallagher Award, Thomas E. Purcell Award, I. Pat Rios Award and Business of the Year. Carla Medina of GCI will receive the Dorothy Gallagher Award for her contributions to the organization. Dr. Theresa Torres of the University of Missouri-Kansas City will receive the Thomas E.
