El ganador de siete premios Emmy y presentador del programa “What Would You Do?”, John Quiñones, será el orador principal.

Mattie Rhodes to host 120th anniversary dinner celebration

On Oct. 23, the Mattie Rhodes Center will host its 120th anniversary benefit dinner at the Kansas City Marriott Downtown Hotel, located at 200 W. 12th St. in Kansas City Mo.

The dinner will start with a cocktail reception at 5:30 p.m., followed by a dinner at 6:30. Seven-time Emmy Award winner and “What Would You Do?” host John Quinones will be the keynote speaker.

“We are very excited to have him,” said Angela Brunner, Mattie Rhodes development associate. “He will give a great speech, show us some clips. We are happy to have him.”

During the dinner, Cathy Hiersteiner will receive the 2014 Mattie RhodeMattieDirectorss Center Service Award for her dedication to Mattie Rhodes.

“For a long time, she has been a big supporter,” Brunner said. “She was part of the board, she has served … (on) multiple committees and she has helped Mattie Rhodes to expand. Her career in social work is remarkable and she has done a lot for several not-for-profits in the area.”

This year’s event is different than previous Mattie Rhodes celebrations. Typically, Mattie Rhodes hosts an anniversary luncheon. The organization changed the event format for this year because of its 120th anniversary.

“We want to celebrate … (with) the dinner,” Brunner said. “We want to … (show) what we have done in the past and look forward to the things we want to do in the future. We want to expand (our) services in … Wyandotte County, (Kan.), and expand our community services to build a better community from the inside.”

Tickets for the celebration are $100 each and can be bought by calling (816) 271-2536 or visiting www.mattierhodes.org.
