Texas governor demands stronger border security

By Chara
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott recently demanded that the federal government increase security across the Texas-Mexico border.
Abbott made the demand by sending a letter to Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson. In the letter, the Texas governor asked for 250 Border Patrol agents and five aerostats.
The governor also provided a list of the conditions under which individuals would be released to relatives or to private organizations in Texas, and requested continued federal diligence and partnership involving the Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Department of Justice and state of Texas.
“Texas will continue to be assertive in securing our border,” Abbott wrote.
Abbott’s demands came after the recent release of U.S. Border Patrol reports indicating that more than 10,000 people were detained after crossing the U.S.-Mexico border.
“Given recent reports that our southern border has become more porous — not less, it is clearer than ever that the federal government must act to reverse the tide of this mounting crisis,” Abbott stated.
The Department of Homeland Security hasn’t responded to Abbott’s letter.
