Citizens of the World Charter School (CWC) pronto abrirá sus puertas para los niños de kinder y primer grado en el primer año escolar en el área de Kansas City.
Situado en la zona de Midtown de Kansas City, Mo., esta es la única escuela de carta en el medio oeste que forma parte de la red nacional, con sede en California CWC sin ánimo de lucro. Otras escuelas de la red incluyen tres en Los Angeles y dos en Nueva York.
Aunque el edificio para la nueva escuela está en construcción, la terminación del edificio está en horario, según Kristin Droege, directora ejecutiva fundador del CWC Kansas City.
“Tuvimos suerte de encontrar un edificio que se configura para tener grandes espacios abiertos,” dijo Droege. “Es difícil de encontrar.”
Construcción se realiza en tres plantas principales y un sótano. La mayor parte del espacio del sótano servirá como un salón de usos múltiples que va a transformar en el área de almuerzo, área de educación física interior y zona de montaje. El primer y segundo piso se utilizará para los nuevos entrantes de kinder y primer grado. El tercer piso no será accesible para los estudiantes hasta el año escolar 2017-2018.
“(Las) salas de clase se centrarán en la participación activa,” dijo Droege. “Los estudiantes trabajarán con diferentes grupos y diferentes partes del edificio durante todo el día, por lo que van a ser mentalmente comprometido en lo que están haciendo.”
Aunque la mayoría de los maestros son locales, la mayoría de ellos tienen experiencia en la enseñanza en el extranjero en América Latina, según Hallie Richardson, coordinadora de extensión de CWC Kansas City.
“Tenemos un personal muy experimentado con un promedio de ocho años de experiencia, por lo que es emocionante,” declaró Richardson.
CWC Kansas City ha sido creado para crecer para incluir los grados K-12. Según Droege, el programa de escuela crecerá un grado cada año, por lo que para el año escolar 2017-2018, niños de segundo grado asistirán a la escuela. CWC Kansas City está en el proceso de adquisición de un edificio para los grados 3-6.

CWC Kansas City opening soon for 2016-17 school year

Citizens of the World Charter School (CWC) will soon open to kindergarteners and first-graders for its first school year in the Kansas City area.
Located in the Midtown section of Kansas City, Mo., this is the only charter school in the Midwest that’s part of the national, California-based CWC non-profit network. Other schools in the network include three in Los Angeles and two in New York.
Although the building for the new school is under construction, completion of the building is on schedule, according to Kristin Droege, CWC Kansas City founding executive director.
“We were fortunate to find a building that would configure to having big open spaces,” Droege said. “It’s hard to find.”
Construction is being done on three main floors and a basement. Most of the basement space will serve as a multipurpose room that will transform into the lunch area, indoor physical education area and assembly area. The first and second floors will be used for the new incoming kindergarteners and first-graders. The third floor won’t be accessible to students until the 2017-18 school year.
“(The) classrooms will focus on active engagement,” Droege said. “Students will be working with different groups and different parts of the building throughout the day, so they’ll be mentally engaged in what they’re doing.”
Although most of the teachers are local, a majority of them have experience teaching abroad in Latin America, according to Hallie Richardson, CWC Kansas City outreach coordinator.
“We have a really experienced staff with an average of eight years of experience, so it’s exciting,” Richardson stated.
CWC Kansas City is chartered to grow to include grades K-12. According to Droege, the school program will grow a grade each year, so by the 2017-18 school year, second-graders will be attending the school. CWC Kansas City is in the process of acquiring a building for grades 3-6.
