Clinton’s VP has much to offer

Since introducing Tim Kaine as her running mate, Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton has received numerous compliments for her vice presidential selection. Media agencies have described him as a calm, experienced politician who’ll help her govern.
“But is he too calm?” I wonder.
Indeed, after years of hearing President Obama’s charismatic, passionate speeches and months of hearing Clinton’s energetic speeches, Kaine might be too calm – borderline boring, in fact. At times, he might seem disinterested. On the other hand, he might be the perfect balance for Clinton, as Vice President Joe Biden has been for Obama.
Generally, vice presidential candidates are chosen for two reasons: because they’re likely to bring many votes to the ticket with them or because they have sufficient experience to make the ticket stronger. In Kaine’s case, the Democratic Party gets both benefits – more votes and a lot of experience.
In short, the U.S. Senator from Virginia has much to offer.
Normally, Kaine’s home state is a swing state, but that seems unlikely in 2016. Kaine is well-respected in his home state – and that should be enough for the Democrats to prevail in Virginia.
Kaine also has a good track record with Latinos. While in law school, Kaine took a year off to go on a mission trip to Honduras, where he became fluent in Spanish. In 2013, Senator Kaine became the first senator in history to deliver a speech entirely in Spanish on the chamber floor.
Fortunately for Clinton, Kaine has much more to offer than votes. He has experience at every level of government and has yet to lose an election. He served as a city council member, mayor, lieutenant governor, governor and U.S. senator.
There may have been other great vice presidential candidates, but there’s no doubt that Tim Kaine is ready to take the spotlight and help Hillary Clinton govern this great nation. He’s ready to give all he has to offer – and that’s a lot.
